RELIEF IN HAWAII… Residents on Hawaii’s Big Island gained temporary relief yesterday when the lava flow from Kilauea volcano stalled and fountains ceased gushing 100 feet into the air. Authorities said, however, that new blasts have sent ash plumes as high as 13,000 feet into the sky and a new fissure was pumping out lava at a rate of three feet per second. Hawaii Gov. David Ige says a geothermal power station in the lava’s path is “sufficiently safe.”

IVANKA TRUMP TRADEMARKS CAUSE CONCERN… New conflict-of-interest concerns have been raised over Ivanka Trump’s company gaining final approval for its 13th trademark in China in the last three months. The trademarks have followed her father’s removal of sanctions on Chinese telecom giant ZTE. The company was barred from doing business with U.S. companies after violating U.S. sanctions and lying to investigators.

VIRGINIA CONGRESSMAN TOM GARRETT RETIRES… Virginia Republican Congressman Tom Garrett announced yesterday that he is seeking treatment for alcoholism won’t run for re-election this year. He becomes the 44th Republican in the House to retire ahead of the 2018 elections. Garrett is a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, He faced heavy criticism in the wake of last August’s Charlottesville white supremacist rally when a picture of him and one of the event’s organizers surfaced was posted on social media.

ALBERTO STRIKES GULF COAST... Subtropical Storm Alberto struck the Gulf Coast yesterday, bringing high winds and heavy rain. Forecasters warned of flash flooding and dangerous surf. Tornadoes also were possible in much of Florida and parts of Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama, according to the National Hurricane Center. Heaviest rainfall was expected in the Florida Panhandle, eastern and central Alabama, and western Georgia.

ARREST IN CEMETERY VANDALISM… Police in southwestern Illinois have arrested a man suspected of vandalizing nearly 200 cemetery headstones with swastikas. The vandalism occurred Saturday in Glen Carbon, Illinois, some 19 miles northeast of St. Louis. The Glen Carbon cemetery is the resting place of more than 1,500 veterans.

BTS TOPS ALBUM CHART… The Korean boy band BTS tops the Billboard 200 albums chart as its newest release “Love Yourself: Tear” sold 135,000 copies last week. Post Malone’s “beerbongs & bentleys” slipped into second place after selling 123,000 units. Rapper Lil Baby’s debut studio album, “Harder Than Ever,” finished third on sales of 71,000 units. Five Finger Death Punch’s “And Justice for None” debuted at No. 4 with 70,000 units sold. Cardi B’s “Invasion of Privacy capped the top five with 48,000 albums sold.

ACTRESS ALLYN ANN McLERIE DIES… Actress and dancer Allyn Ann McLerie, who starred on Broadway and on the big screen, died last week, her daughter has announced. She was 91. McLerie’s movie credits include “Where’s Charley?” and “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?” She appeared on numerous shows, including “The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd,” “The Tony Randall Show” and “WKRP in Cincinnati.”

NBA WESTERN CONFERENCE FINAL, GAME 7
Golden State 101 – HOUSTON 92… The Warriors outscored the Rockets 33-15 in the third quarter to erase an 11-point halftime deficit and held tough in the fourth quarter to win Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. They will host Cleveland in Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals on Thursday. Kevin Durant scored a game-high 34 points. Stephen Curry added 27 points and 10 assists. Draymond Green grabbed 13 rebounds to go with his 10 points.

STANLEY CUP FINAL GAME 1
VEGAS 6 – Washington 4... Tomas Nosek scored a tiebreaking goal midway through the third period and added an empty-netter to lead the Golden Knights past the Capitals in the Stanley Cup Final opener. Reilly Smith scored a goal and had an assist for Vegas, which hosts Game 2 tomorrow.

Miami 7 – SAN DIEGO 2… Cameron Maybin lined a pair of RBI singles, Yadiel Rivera singled home two runs and the Marlins cruised past the Padres. Rookie Caleb Smith (4-5) held the Padres to a run on four hits over seven innings.

ARIZONA 12 – Cincinnati 5… Nick Ahmed and Chris Owings belted three-run homers and John Ryan Murphy added a solo shot as the Diamondbacks ripped the Reds. Arizona took advantage of three Cincinnati errors.

ATLANTA 4 – N.Y. Mets 3… Charlie Culberson came through with a pinch-hit two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Braves over the Mets. Tyler Flowers drilled a solo homer for Atlanta.

N.Y. Mets 8 – ATLANTA 5... The Mets handled the Braves to salvage a split of the doubleheader. The game was delayed three hours by rain. Luis Guillorme lined a tiebreaking two-run single in top of the seventh inning. Amed Rosario drove in three runs with a pair of singles. Brandon Nimmo hit a solo homer.

Chi. Cubs 7 – PITTSBURGH 0… Mike Montgomery (1-1) pitched two-hit ball over 5-2/3 innings and four relievers finished off the Cubs’ blanking of the Pirates. Anthony Rizzo homered and singled home a pair of runs. Addison Russell homered with a runner aboard.

MILWAUKEE 8 – St. Louis 3... Jonathan Villar hit a three-run homer and Christian Yelich added a solo shot as the Brewers topped the Cardinals. Ryan Braun went 3-for-3 with an RBI.

COLORADO 6 – San Francisco 5 (10 innings)… Chris Iannetta singled home Nolan Arenado in the bottom of the 10th inning to send the Rockies past the Giants. Ian Desmond singled home a run in the third and lifted a game-tying sacrifice fly in the eighth. Trevor Story put Colorado on the board with a three-run homer in the first.

L.A. DODGERS 5 – Philadelphia 4... The Dodgers overcame a 4-0 sixth-inning deficit to upend the Phillies. Yasmani Grandal’s run-scoring single capped a three-run bottom of the eighth inning. Pinch-hitter Matt Kemp doubled home a run to spark the rally.

AL SCORES
Tampa Bay 1 – OAKLAND 0 (13 innings)… Mallex Smith singled home Jesus Sucre with the game’s only run as the Rays outlasted the Athletics.

SEATTLE 2 – Texas 1… Marco Gonzalez (5-3) pitched four-hit ball over 6-2/3 innings in outdueling Doug Fister (1-5) and the Mariners clipped the Rangers. Nelson Cruz and Kyle Seager produced run-scoring singles in the bottom of the sixth inning.

CLEVELAND 9 – Chi. White Sox 6… Edwin Encarnacion stroked a bases-clearing double and homered with the bases empty in leading the Indians past the White Sox. Chicago committed three errors that led to four unearned runs.

BOSTON 8 – Toronto 3… Andrew Benintendi blasted a three-run homer to cap a five-run bottom of the fourth inning and added an RBI triple in leading the Red Sox past the Blue Jays. J.D. Martinez connected for his 17th homer. David Price (5-4) allowed two runs on four hits over five innings.

Houston 5 – N.Y. YANKEES 1… The Astros got a three-run homer from J.D. Davis and a solo shot from Jose Altuve in downing the Yankees. Justin Verlander (7-2) allowed just a run on five hits over 6-2/3 innings.

DETROIT 9 – L.A. Angels 3… James McCann unloaded a grand slam in the bottom of the third inning and the Tigers rolled past the Angels. Leonys Martin added a solo homer. Matthew Boyd (3-4) limited L.A. to two hits over five innings.

Minnesota 8 – KANSAS CITY 5… The Twins slugged their way past the Royals to win for the first time in five games. Miguel Sano homered with a runner aboard. Eddie Rosario cleared the bases with a double. Lance Lynn (3-4) allowed two runs on six hits over six innings.

INTERLEAGUE SCORE
Washington 6 – BALTIMORE 0… Gio Gonzalez (6-2) scattered six hits over 7-2/3 innings and reliever Shawn Kelley completed the Nationals’ shutout of the Orioles. Anthony Rendon belted a three-run homer in the top of the third inning. Matt Adams, Michael Taylor and Wilmer Difo produced RBIs singles in the eighth.
