TRUMP WANTED SESSIONS TO REVERSE RECUSAL… The New York Times reported yesterday that President Trump asked attorney general Jeff Sessions to reverse his decision to recuse himself from federal investigations into Russian election interference. Sessions reportedly refused after Trump “berated” him. Special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigators are believed to be looking into the encounter as part of their probe into whether the president obstructed justice by attempting to hamper the Russia investigation.

MISSOURI GOVERNOR RESIGNS… Missouri Governor Eric Greitens resigned yesterday amid the broadening investigation into his affair with his former hairdresser. The affair became public in January when a television news station aired a report immediately following his State of the State address. The investigation has expanded into possible campaign-finance laws. Greitens’ resignation will take effect Friday.

SUPREME COURT LETS ARKANSAS ABORTION LAW STAND… The Supreme Court yesterday declined to hear an appeal by abortion provider Planned Parenthood of a lower court ruling that had revived the 2015 state law restricting medication-induced abortions. The ruling could lead to the shuttering of two of the state’s three abortion clinics. Planned Parenthood says it will seek a new injunction from a federal judge blocking the law.

STUDY FIND PUERTO RICO DEATH TOLL TOPS 4K… A Harvard study found that Hurricane Maria claimed the lives of 4,645 people in Puerto Rico last year. That number is considerably higher than the 64 deaths listed as the official death toll by the island’s government. Researchers estimate that most victims of the storm died between September 20 and December 31, 2017, as a direct or indirect result of the hurricane.

ALBERTO WEAKENS AS IT MOVES INLAND… Subtropical Storm Alberto downed trees, caused power outages and flooded part of the South yesterday before weakening as it moved into the country’s midsection. Flash flood watches remained in effect for much of the South. More than 25,000 power outages were reported in Alabama after the first named storm of the season made landfall on the Florida Panhandle.

ENTERTAINMENT...
ABC CANCELS ‘ROSEANNE’… ABC abruptly canceled the reboot of “Roseanne” yesterday after Roseanne Barr incited outrage with racist tweets. The show, which revived the 1990s hit series, was ABC’s most widely watched prime time show for the TV season that ended last week. ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey called Barr’s tweets “abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values.”

DAVID COPPERFIELD NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR TOURIST’S INJURIES… A jury ruled yesterday that illusionist David Copperfield was negligent but not financially responsible for a British tourist’s injuries during a vanishing act that used participants from the audience of a Las Vegas Strip show in 2013. The tourist claims he suffered brain and other injuries while participating in the illusion. The jury found he was 100 percent responsible for his own injuries.

Chi. Cubs 8 – PITTSBURGH 6... Ben Zobrist and Kyle Schwarber hit two-run homers and Anthony Rizzo added a solo shot as the Cubs overpowered the Pirates.

ATLANTA 7 – N.Y. Mets 6… The Braves overcame 4-0 and 6-2 deficits to upend the Mets. Johan Camargo hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning. Ender Inciarte’s two-run triple tied the game in the eighth.

St. Louis 6 – MILWAUKEE 1… Michael Wacha (6-1) limited the Brewers to a run on two hits over 6-2/3 innings and got plenty of support in the Cardinals’ win. Harrison Bader, Matt Carpenter and Francisco Pena all hit solo homers.

COLORADO 11 – San Francisco 4… Chris Iannetta and Nolan Arenado both had a couple of hits and drove in a pair of runs as the Rockies rolled past the Giants. David Dahl delivered a pinch-hit two-run homer.

ARIZONA 5 – Cincinnati 2... Zack Godley (5-4) held the Reds to two runs on six hits over six innings. Daniel Descalso homered with a runner aboard.

SAN DIEGO 9 – Miami 5… Pinch-hitter Christian Villanueva singled home a pair of runs during a four-run bottom of the eighth inning that carried the Padres past the Marlins. Franmil Reyes hit a two-run homer in the sixth.

Philadelphia 6 – L.A. DODGERS 1… Jake Arrieta (5-2) scattered six hits over seven scoreless innings as the Phillies topped the Dodgers. Nick Williams homered with the bases empty.

CLEVELAND 7 – Chi. White Sox 3... The Indians got home runs from Michael Brantley, Jose Ramirez and Jason Kipnis in downing the White Sox. Mike Clevinger (4-2) surrendered a run on four hits over 6-2/3 innings.

N.Y. YANKEES 6 – Houston 5 (10 innings)… The Yankees rallied from four runs down in the fifth inning to outlast the Astros. Gleyber Torres singled home Miguel Andujar with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning. Brett Gardner’s two-run homer tied the game in the ninth. Aaron Judge also went dep.

L.A. Angels 9 – DETROIT 2… Ian Kinsler went 3-for-3 with a three-run homer as the Angels pounded the Tigers. Luis Valbuena homered twice and knocked in three runs. Martin Maldonado homered with a runner aboard and singled home a run.

BOSTON 8 – Toronto 3… Sandy Leon hit a two-run homer and drove in a run with one of his two doubles as the Red Sox beat the Blue Jays. Xander Bogaerts drilled a solo homer. Bill Porcello (7-2) gave up three runs on five hits over 6-2/3 innings. One of the runs he allowed was unearned.

KANSAS CITY 2 – Minnesota 1 (14 innings)… Alcides Escobar homered in the bottom of the 14th inning to lift the Royals over the Twins. Jorge Soler drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth inning to force home the tying run.

Tampa Bay 4 – OAKLAND 3… C.J. Cron, Joey Wendle and Wilson Ramos homered consecutively in the top of the third inning and added a ninth-inning blast as the Rays powered their way past the Athletics.

Texas 9 – SEATTLE 5… Rougned Odor’s two-run double in the top of the ninth inning broke a tie and sparked a four-run rally. Shin-Soo Choo homered for Texas. Ronald Guzman went 4 for 4 with three RBIs.

INTERLEAGUE SCORE
Washington 3 – BALTIMORE 2... Bryce Harper smacked his 17th homer and Mark Reynolds also had a solo shot as the Nationals edged the Orioles. Jeremy Hellicskon (2-0) allowed two runs on six hits over five innings.
