REPORT: TRUMP TARIFFS WILL HARM ECONOMIC GROWTH… President Trump’s newly imposed tariffs will harm economic growth, according to a report conducted by the White House Council of Economic Advisers. The report found that countries affected by the tariffs have threatened to impose penalties of their own in response. Trump’s decision to designate certain imports for tariffs is facing mounting criticism among members of both parties in Congress.

SENATE PANEL STAFFER ARRESTED IN LEAKS INVESTIGATION… A longtime staffer for the Senate Intelligence Committee was arrested last night on charges of lying to FBI agents investigating the leak of classified information in December. 58-year-old James Wolfe is facing three counts of making false statements about contacts with reporters. The Justice Department said some of the work was related to the work of the Senate Intelligence Committee and was considered sensitive. Meanwhile, the New York Times reported that the Justice Department seized telephone and electronic communications of one of its reporters, Ali Watkins, in February as part of the investigation. The Times warned that the Justice Department “will endanger reporters’ ability to promise confidentiality to their sources and, ultimately, undermine the ability of a free press to shine a much needed light on government actions.”

TRUMP WOULD INVITE NORTH KOREA LEADER TO WHITE HOUSE… President Trump announced yesterday that he would “certainly” invite North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to the White House if Wednesday’s summit in Singapore goes well. Trump also said he would “totally prepared to walk” away from the summit if necessary, noting he had done “it once before.” Trump raise eyebrows when he revealed that doesn’t think he has to prepare for the summit “much” because “it’s all about attitude.”

CURIOSITY DISCOVERS ‘BUILDING BLOCKS FOR LIFE’… NASA announced yesterday that it took a big step in the search for life on Mars when the Curiosity rover discovered large organic molecules that scientists refer to as building blocks for life. The rover also confirmed signs of methane and astrobiologists are eager to determine its source.

COLORADO WILDFIRE PROMPTS EVACUATIONS… A wildfire in southwestern Colorado forced evacuations of hundreds of residents yesterday and is expected to threaten homes today. The blaze has consumed nearly 8 square miles north of Durango since breaking out last week. The fire has been closing in on the town of Hermosa, where residents of nearly 500 homes have been evacuated.

ENTERTAINMENT
NEW PRINCE ALBUM… Warner Bros. Records announced yesterday on what would have been Prince’s 60th birthday that it is releasing new music from the musician. The album “Piano & A Microphone 1983” was culled from Prince’s storied vault will be released in September. According to Warner Bros., the album includes nine tracks Prince recorded in a private rehearsal.

IN THEATERS… “Ocean’s 8” tells the story of Debbie Ocean as she gathers an all-female crew to attempt an impossible heist at New York City’s yearly Met Gala. Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway star in the PG-13 film. “Hotel Artimus” centers on a nurse who runs a secret, members-only emergency room for criminals in a riot-torn, near-future Los Angeles. The R-rated film stars Jodie Foster and Sofie Boutella.

NHL STANLEY CUP FINAL
Washington 4 – VEGAS 3… Lars Eller scored a tiebreaking goal with 7:37 remaining and the Capitals hung on to edge the Golden Knights in Game 5 and capture the Stanley Cup for the first time in the franchise’s 44-year history. Devante Smith-Pelly netted the tying goal 2-1/2 minutes earlier. Alex Ovechkin scored his 15th goal of the postseason on a second-period power-play and after the game was presented with the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player in the playoffs.

L.A. Dodgers 8 – PITTSBURGH 7… Joc Pederson went 3-for-5 with a pair of homers and three RBIs in leading the Dodgers past the Pirates. Cody Bellinger homered with a runner aboard.

CINCINNATI 7 – Colorado 5 (13 innings)… Jesse Winker connected for a two-run homer in the bottom of the 13th inning to send the Reds past the Rockies. Scott Schebler had three hits and an RBI.

ST. LOUIS 4 – Miami 1… Miles Mikolas (7-1) pitched three-hit ball over seven innings and the Cardinals eased past the Marlins. Jose Martinez hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. Luke Volt added a pinch-hit solo blast in the seventh.

CHI. CUBS 4 – Philadelphia 3… Anthony Rizzo homered and lifted a sacrifice fly to lead the Cubs past the Phillies. Chicago has won five of six.

AL SCORES
MINNESOTA 7 – Chi. White Sox 2… The Twins got a three-run homer from Eddie Rosario, a two-run shot from Eduardo Escobar and a solo blast from Ehire Adrianza in powering their way past the White Sox. Jose Berrios (7-5) allowed two runs on six hits and struck out 10 in a complete-game victory.

TORONTO 5 – Baltimore 4 (10 innings)… Aledmys Diaz singled home Teoscar Hernandez with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to complete the Blue Jays’ come-from-behind victory. Randal Grichuk stroked a two-run double and scored the tying run on Jonathan Pillar’s single in the ninth. Curtis Granderson put Toronto on the board with a first-inning homer.

Seattle 5 – TAMPA BAY 4… Mitch Hanigar stroked a two-run single and homered in leading the Mariners past the Rays. Denard Span also went deep for Seattle. Mike Leake (6-3) allowed two runs on eight hits over eight innings.

Detroit 7 – BOSTON 2… Leonys Martin’s two-run homer capped a five-run top of the first inning and the Tigers coasted past the Red Sox. John Hicks and Jose Iglesias added two RBIs apiece. Matthew Boyd (4-4) gave up two runs on four hits over 6-1/3 innings.

Houston 5 – RANGERS 2… Evan Gattis drilled a two-run homer and singled home a run as the Astros handled the Rangers. Gerrit Cole (7-1) allowed just a run on three hits over six innings.

OAKLAND 4 – Kansas City 1… Matt Olson smacked a game-tying solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning and the Athletics came up with three runs in the sixth to put away the Royals. Stephen Piscotty went 3-for-3 with an RBI.

NBA FINAL RESUMES TONIGHT… The Golden State Warriors will try to complete a sweep of the NBA Finals tonight when they visit the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 4. A victory would give Golden State its third title in four years. A Cleveland win would force Game 5 Tuesday in Oakland.
