TRUMP MEETS WITH KIM… President Donald Trump met with North Korea leader Kim Jong Un at a secrecy-shrouded summit in Singapore yesterday. Afterward, Trump claimed that the meeting had gone “better than anybody could have expected.” There was no evidence that the meeting accomplished anything, but Kim called it a “good prelude for peace.”

NET NEUTRALITY LOST… The Republican-led repeal of Obama-era net neutrality protections went into effect yesterday. The FCC said the repeal does away with “unnecessary, heavy-handed regulations” and replaces them with “common-sense regulations that will promote investment and broadband deployment.” However, the repeal is overwhelmingly unpopular and is facing fierce resistance from members of Congress, state officials, tech companies and various other groups. The opposition continues efforts to save net neutrality through legislation and litigation.

SUPREME COURT ALLOWS VOTER-ROLL PURGING… The Supreme Court ruled yesterday that states can purge their voting rolls by dumping people who haven’t voted in a while. The court voted 5-4 to reject arguments in a case from Ohio that the practice violates a federal law intended to increase the ranks of registered voters. Democrats and civil rights groups called the ruling a move toward voter suppression and warned that other states could enact voter purges that favor GOP candidates.

SESSIONS ISSUS ASYLUM RULING… Attorney General Jeff Sessions yesterday issued a ruling that would prevent tens of thousands of victims of domestic abuse and gang violence from seeking asylum in the U.S. Sessions ruled that victims of “private” crimes like domestic violence do not make immigrants eligible for asylum under the law. “Generally, claims by aliens pertaining to domestic violence or gang violence perpetrated by non-governmental actors will not qualify for asylum,” Sessions wrote.

KUDLOW SUFFERS HEART ATTACK… President Trump’s top economic adviser Larry Kudlow was reported to be recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center last night after suffering a heart attack. The White House called the heart attack was “very mild” and said Kudlow was in “good condition.” Nothing else was reported about the 70-year-old Kudlow’s condition.

IVANKA, JARED MADE $82M IN 2017… Financial disclosures released yesterday revealed that Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner made $82 million in 2017 while serving as advisers to President Trump. Ivanka Trump made $3.9 million from the Trump International Hotel near the White House, while she brought in $2 million in severance from her father’s real estate company. Trump and Kushner claim they are no longer involved in their business interests while advising the president.

FOUR CHILDREN DEAD IN ORLANDO… Authorities in Orlando, Florida, say four young children were found dead after being held hostage by a man during a standoff with police. The man, identified as Gary Lindsey Jr., was also found dead at the scene with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Orlando police spent nearly 24 hours begging Lindsey Jr. to release the children after he barricaded himself in an apartment with them following a domestic violence call that led to a confrontation with police. Two children were aged 1, 6, 10, and 11. A police officer shot during the encounter was listed in critical condition.

ROSE McGOWAN INDICTED… A grand jury in Virginia indicted Actress Rose McGowan yesterday on cocaine possession charges. Authorities say they found the drugs in McGowan’s wallet after she left it on a flight to Washington in January 2017. McGowan faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

EMINEM FANS FRIGHTENED DURING SET… Pyrotechnic concussions that caused loud booms during Eminem’s set at the Bonnaroo music festival on Saturday caused panic among some fans. Concertgoers screamed and ducked at what they thought was gunfire ringing out during Eminem’s performance of “Kill You.” Some fans complained afterward that it was irresponsible to use such sound effects.
