ANIMAL AND PLANT SAFEGUARDS UNDER REVIEW… The Trump administration yesterday proposed ending automatic protections for threatened animals and plants. The proposal includes limiting habitat safeguards meant to shield recovering species from harm. Administration officials say they want to simplify and improve how the landmark Endangered Species Act is used. The announcement sparked outrage among environmentalists, who said the moves would speed extinctions in the name of furthering the administration’s anti-environment agenda.

THREE MORE FBI CYBERSECURITY DEPARTURES… Three top cybersecurity officials have announced they are leaving the FBI. Their departures come as Russian cyber attacks are emerging as a serious concern for election integrity. The three join a number of other deputies who already left the FBI to work in the private sector. Experts say it’s “abnormal” that these many senior officials are leaving at the same time.

PLANS 3D-PRINTED GUNS MADE AVAILABLE ONLINE… The Justice Department is allowing the sale of plans for 3D-printed firearms online, beginning August 1. Under the terms of a settlement, Cody Wilson and Defense Distributed can freely publish the 3-D files for the firearms and other information online, according to the Second Amendment Foundation. The government has also agreed to pay almost $40,000 of Wilson’s legal fees and to return $10,000 in State Department registration dues paid by Defense Distributed.

8 DEAD IN MISSOURI BOATING MISHAP… Eight people were killed last night when a tourist boat capsized and sunk amid severe weather on Table Rock Lake in Missouri. Seven people have reportedly been hospitalized, while several others remain missing. Dive teams from multiple agencies have been searching or victims.

TORNADOES IN IOWA… Tornado funnels caused “catastrophic damage” when they touched down in Iowa yesterday. At least 12 houses were damaged in the city of Bondurant, where a tornado also upended trees and power lines. Manufacturing plants in Pella and Marshalltown reported heavy damage. No deaths were reported as a result of the tornadoes, authorities said.

ENTERTAINMENT
INDICTMENTS IN XXXTENTACION MURDER… Prosecutors in Miami have indicted four men for the murder of rapper XXXTentacion. Two of the suspects have been arrested, while the other two remain at large. All have been charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm. XXXTentacion, whose legal name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was “shopping for motorcycles” when a gunman approached his vehicle and shot him on June 18.

IN THEATERS… In the sequel, “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” Sophie learns about her mother’s past while pregnant herself. Lily James and Amanda Seyfried star in the PG-13 film. “The Equalizer 2” continues the story of Robert McCall, who serves justice on behalf of the exploited and oppressed. Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal star in the R-rated sequel.
