PRIMARIES IN VERMONT, MINNESOTA. CONNECTICUT, WISCONSIN… Christine Hallquist became the first openly transgender major-party candidate for governor when she won the Democratic primary in Vermont yesterday. She will face Republican Phil Scott in the general election… Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson denied former Governor Tim Pawlenty’s bid to return to office after an eight-year absence by winning yesterday’s Minnesota’s Republican governor primary. Johnson will face Democrat Tim Walz in November. He will go up against Republican incumbent Scott Walker in the general election.

COLYER CONCEDES KANSAS GOVERNOR GOP PRIMARY… Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer conceded the state’s gubernatorial Republican primary to Secretary of State Kris Kobach last night. His announcement came a week after one of the closest races in Kansas history. Kobach will face Democratic candidate Senator Laura Kelly and independent Greg Orman in November’s general election.

DEFENSE RESTS ITS CASE IN MANAFORT TRIAL… The defense rested its case yesterday in the federal bank fraud and tax-evasion trial of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort. After U.S. District Court Judge T.S. Ellis III announced that he would dismiss Manafort’s motion to acquit, defense attorneys wrapped up their arguments without calling a single witness to the stand. The case will now proceed to closing arguments and jury deliberation.

TRUMP CAMPAIGN TAKES ACTION AGAINST OMAROSA… President Trump’s presidential campaign has filed for arbitration proceedings against former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman. White House officials say Manigault Newman’s new book “Unhinged” includes details that breached her 2016 confidentiality agreement with the Trump campaign. Manigault Newman has denied signing a non-disclosure agreement while working with the White House, but did sign an NDA for Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. She says she doesn’t believe she violated the 2016 NDA with the statements made in her book.

PENNSYLVANIA DIOCESE ACCUSED OF COVER-UP… A grand jury report released last night accuses six Catholic dioceses in Pennsylvania of systematically covered up the sexual abuse of more than 1,000 children by hundreds of clergymen over the past seven decades. The report followed a comprehensive investigation that determined officials within the Roman Catholic Church regularly put the institution above the interests of the victims. After examining a half-million pages of evidence dating back to 1947, the grand jury noted that the real number of victims could be even higher.

ENTERTAINMENT
WEINSTEIN MUST FACE LAWSUIT… A federal judge yesterday gave a British actress the go-ahead in her lawsuit accusing movie producer Harvey Weinstein of violating sex trafficking laws. Kadian Noble claims in her lawsuit that Weinstein invited her to a hotel room in France and sexually assaulting her. In denying the plaintiff’s motion to dismiss the suit, U.S. District Judge Robert Sweet in Manhattan said the allegations “plausibly establish” that Weinstein may have violated the federal Trafficking Victims Protection Act.
