ACCUSED MAIL BOMBER IN COURT… Cesar Sayoc Jr., the Florida man charged with sending 13 suspected pipe bombs to prominent Democrats, is scheduled for a court hearing today. The 56-year-old Sayoc will appear before the U.S. District Court in Miami, according to the Miami Herald. Charges include interstate transportation of an explosive, illegal mailing of explosives, threats against former presidents and certain other persons, threatening interstate communications, and assaulting federal officers.

SYNAGOGUE VICTIMS IDENTIFIED… Authorities yesterday identified the 11 men and women slain in Saturday’s mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue. The victims ranged in age from 54 to 97. Among them was a married couple ages 84 and 86 as well as 54- and 59-year-old brothers. Six people injured included four police officers, one of whom has been released. Accused shooter Robert Bowers reportedly told a SWAT officer after he was taken into custody that he wanted “all Jews to die.” U.S. Attorney Scott Brady says federal prosecutors are seeking approval to pursue the death penalty against Bowers.

WHITE NATIONALIST ARRESTED… The FBI has announced the arrest of a fourth white nationalist wanted in connection with engaging in activity promoting violence and civil disobedience at political rallies in California. 38-year-old Aaron Matthew Eason is expected to make his first appearance today in federal court. According to a federal indictment unsealed last week, Eason and three other members of the white nationalist group Rise Above Movement traveled to three California cities last year with the intention to incite violence.

SEARCH FOR DOWNED PLANE SUSPENDED… The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a civilian aircraft carrying five people that crashed off the coast of South Carolina on Thursday. Crews had searched 3,516 square miles for 76 hours. The Piper PA-31 was reported down about 110 miles east of Charleston during a flight from South Carolina to the Bahamas.

LOTTERY WINNERS… Lottery officials announced yesterday that two people won $687.8 million Powerball jackpot. The jackpot was the game’s third-largest in history. The federal government will withhold 24 percent of the winnings for taxes. However, winners can expect to owe the difference between that amount and the top federal income tax rate of 37 percent. State taxes will also cut into the winnings.

ENTERTAINMENT
‘STAR IS BORN’ SOUNDTRACK REMAINS ATOP ALBUM CHART… The “A Star is Born” soundtrack sold 109,000 copies to remain atop the weekend box office for a third straight week. Future and Juice WRLD’s collaborative effort WRLD ON DRUGS sold 98,000 copies to finish second. Rock band Greta Van Fleet’s “Anthem of the Peaceful Army” finished third after selling 87,000 units. Disturbed’s “Evolution” followed in fourth place with 71,000 units sold. Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter V” sold 65,000 units to cap the top five.

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE… The top four spots remain unchanged at the weekend box office. “Halloween” took in another $32 million to remain in first place. “A Star is Born” made $14.1 million to hold down second place. “Venom” made $10.8 million to stay at No. 3. “Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween” remained in fourth place with $7.5 million. “Hunter Killer” debuted at No. 5 with $6.6 million.

MLB WORLD SERIES GAME 5
Boston 5 – L.A. DODGERS 1… The Red Sox powered their way past the Dodgers to complete their dominant season and capture the 2018 World Series in five games. Steve Pearce homered twice to give him three for the series and was named series MVP. Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez also homered for Boston. Starter David Price held L.A. to a run on three hits over seven innings. The World Series title is the Red Sox’ fourth since 2004 and ninth all time.

Philadelphia 24 – JACKSONVILLE 18… Carson Wentz passed for 286 yards and three touchdowns as the Eagles (4-4) downed the Jaguars (3-5) in a game played in London.

Washington 20 – N.Y. GIANTS 13… Adrian Peterson had a touchdown catch in the first quarter and added a 64-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter to lead the Redskins (5-2) past the Giants (1-7). Peterson finished with 149 yards rushing.

PITTSBURGH 33 – Cleveland 18… James Connor ran or 146 yards and two touchdowns as the Steelers (4-2-1) whipped the Browns (2-5-1). Ben Roethlisberger threw for 257 yards and two scores.

Seattle 28 – DETROIT 14… Russell Wilson threw touchdown passes to three different receivers as the Seahawks (4-3) handled the Lions (3-4). Chris Carson rushed for 105 yards and a score.

KANSAS CITY 30 – Denver 23… The Chiefs ((7-1) turned away a fourth-quarter rally to get past the Broncos (3-4). Patrick Mahomes completed 24 of 34 passes for 303 yards and four touchdowns. Sammy Watkins had eight catches for 107 yards and two scores.

CAROLINA 36 – Baltimore 21… Christian McCaffrey ran for a score and had a touchdown reception as the Panthers (5-2) pounded the Ravens (3-4). Cam Newton threw for two TDs.

CHICAGO 24 – N.Y. Jets 10… Mitchell Trubisky threw a pair of first-half touchdown passes and the Bears (4-3) eased past the Jets (3-5). Chicago’s defense allowed just 57 yards rushing.

CINCINNATI 37 – Tampa Bay 34… Ryan Bullock booted a 44-yard field goal with 5 seconds remaining to send the Bengals (5-3) past the Buccaneers (3-4). Joe Mixon ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Tyler Boyd caught nine Andy Dalton passes for 138 yards and a score.

Indianapolis 42 – OAKLAND 28… The Colts (3-5) scored three unanswered touchdowns in the fourth quarter to upend the Raiders (1-6). Andrew Luck passed for 239 yards and three scores. Marlon Mack rushed for 132 yards and two TDs.

ARIZONA 18 – San Francisco 15… Josh Rosen found Christian Kirk with a go-ahead 9-yard touchdown pass with 34 seconds remaining to rally the Cardinals (2-6) past the 49ers (1-7). Larry Fitzgerald had eight catches for 102 yards and a score.

L.A. RAMS 29 – Green Bay 27… Greg Zuerlein kicked a 34-yard field goal with 2:09 left and the unbeaten Rams (8-0) hung on to beat the Packers (3-3-1). Jared Goff threw for 295 yards and three touchdowns. Josh Reynolds caught two scoring tosses. Todd Gurley rushed for 114 yards and had six catches for 81 yards and a TD.

New Orleans 30 – MINNESOTA 20… Alvin Kamara had a touchdown reception and ran for a score in the Saints’ (6-1) defeat of the Vikings (4-3-1). P.J. Williams returned an interception 45 yards for a score.

AP TOP 25 COLLEGE FOOTBALL RANKINGS… There was a massive shakeup in this week’s poll as seven teams dropped out after losses over the weekend. Alabama collected all 60 first-place votes to remain atop the poll. Washington State made the biggest jump by moving up four spots to reach No. 10. Texas and Texas A&M both dropped nine places to No. 15 and No. 25, respectively.

L.A. CLIPPERS 136 – Washington 104… Tobias Harris scored 22 points to lead nine players in double figures and the Clippers breezed past the Wizards. L.A. took control with a 16-0 run in the third quarter.

Edmonton 2 – CHICAGO 1 (OT)… Connor McDavid scored 53 seconds into overtime to lift the Oilers over the Blackhawks for their third straight win. Cam Talbot made 31 saves at goal.

LOS ANGELES 4 – N.Y. RANGERS 3… Alec Martinez found the net with 55 seconds remaining to send the Kings past the Rangers. Ilya Kovalchuk had a goal and two assists.

San Jose 4 – ANAHEIM 3 (OT)… The Sharks recovered to outlast the Ducks after blowing a two-goal lead. Timo Meier’s second goal of the game came at 2:12 of overtime to win it.

VEGAS 4 – Ottawa 3 (OT)… Jonathan Marchessault scored on a penalty shot at 2:24 of overtime to give the Golden Knights a come-from-behind win over the Senators. Alex Tuch tied the game in the third period with his second goal of the game.
