ACCUSED SYNAGOGUE SHOOTER APPEARS IN COURT… The man accused of killing 11 people in Saturday’s Pittsburgh synagogue massacre made his first court appearance yesterday. 46-year-old Robert Bowers is facing 29 charges, including 11 counts of using a firearm to commit murder and two hate crimes. Bowers requested a public defender to defend him following the deadliest attack on Jews in American history. A preliminary hearing is set for Thursday.

PENTAGON SENDING TROOPS TO THE BORDER… The Pentagon has announced plans to send more than 5,200 troops to the border with Mexico as a caravan of Central American migrants travels northward through Mexico. The migrants plan to file legal requests for asylum at the U.S. border, but President Trump has labeled their effort an “invasion.” Critics say the plan is unnecessary since the caravan contains fewer than 5,000 people who are more than a thousand miles from the U.S. border and traveling about 20 miles a day. 2,100 National Guard members are currently stationed at the border.

TRUMP FAMILY FACING CIVIL SUIT... President Trump, along with his children Ivanka, Eric, and Don Jr., have been named in a civil lawsuit alleging they endorsed sham companies. The suit claims that Trump and his children were secretly paid millions of dollars to promote telecommunications marketing company ACN, vitamin-marketing company Trump Network and real-estate advice company Trump Institute when all three were actually “get-rich-quick schemes.” Plaintiffs, identified in the suit as “Doe et al,” insist the suit is not politically motivated. “The case is being brought now because it is ready now,” their attorneys said.

WALL STREET TAKES ANOTHER BEATING… It was another tough day on Wall Street yesterday as the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 245 points, or 0.99 percent amid concerns of another wave of Chinese tariffs. The S&P 500 was down 0.7 percent and the Nasdaq fell 1.6 percent. The Dow was up more than 350 points earlier in the day before swinging more than 900 points.

EXECUTION IN SOUTH DAKOTA… A man convicted in the 2011 killing of a guard during a failed escape from the South Dakota State Penitentiary was executed in South Dakota last night. 56-year-old Robert Berget was put to death after six years of delays centered on concerns for his intellectual capabilities. At the time of the escape, Berget was serving a life sentence for attempted murder and kidnapping.

KIP PARDUE ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT… Actress Sarah Scott has accused Marvel’s “Runaways” star Kip Pardue of sexual assault. Scott alleges that Pardue assaulted her on May 16 while filming a love scene for the pilot of the independent TV series “Mogulettes.” Scott says Pardue later called her into his dressing room and masturbated in front of her.

RAPPER YOUNG GREATNESS FATALLY SHOT… Rapper Young Greatness was fatally shot outside a Waffle House restaurant in New Orleans early yesterday morning. He was 34. The rapper’s real name was Theodore Jones and he was best known for his 2015 single “Moolah.” The track reached No. 85 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was remixed the following year with Lil Wayne and Yo Gotti.

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
New England 25 – BUFFALO 6… The Patriots (6-2) pulled away in the second half to down the Bills (2-6). James White scored on a 1-yard touchdown run and Devin McCourtney returned an interception 84 yards or a fourth-quarter score. Tom Brady passed for 324 yards. Julian Edelman had nine catches for 104 yards.

Portland 103 – INDIANA 93… The Trail Blazers used a strong second half to put away the Pacers. C.J. McCollum scored 17 points to lead seven players in double figures.

PHILADELPHIA 113 – Atlanta 92… The 76ers shook off a slow start to roll past the Hawks. Ben Simmons scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Six other players scored in double figures for Philadelphia.

NEW YORK 115 – Brooklyn 96… Tim Hardaway scored 25 points to lead a balanced scoring attack and the Knicks got past the Nets. Enes Kanter delivered 15 points and as many boards off the bench.

Sacramento 123 – MIAMI 113… The Kings overcame an early double-digit lead to upend the Heat. Willie Cauley-Stein scored 26 points and brought down 13 rebounds. Buddy Hield added 23 points and De’Aaron Fox tossed in 20.

MINNESOTA 124 – L.A. Lakers 120… Jimmy Butler made five- 3-pointers in the third quarter and finished with a game-high 32 points in leading the Timberwolves past the Lakers. Karl Anthony-Towns powered his way to 25 points and 16 boards.

Golden State 149 – CHICAGO 124… The Warriors built a 92-50 halftime lead and coasted past the Bulls. The only NBA team ever to score more in a half was Phoenix with 107 in a victory over Denver in 1990. Klay Thompson knocked down an NBA-record 14 3-pointers on his way to 52 points. Stephen Curry, who held the previous NBA record with 13 3-pointers in a game, finished with 23 points.

MILWAUKEE 124 – Toronto 109… The Bucks fought off the Raptors to remain the NBA’s only unbeaten team. Ersan Ilyasova had 19 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota, which played without the injured Giannis Antetokounmpo.

SAN ANTONIO 113 – Dallas 108 (OT)… DeMar DeRozan pumped in 34 points as the Spurs outlasted the Mavericks. LaMarcus Aldridge added 20 points.

DENVER 116 – New Orleans 111… Gary Harris and Jamal Murray scored 23 points apiece as the Nuggets held off the Pelicans. Nikola Jokic had 12 points and 10 assists.

VANCOUVER 5 – Minnesota 2… Rookie Elias Pettersson found the net twice as the Canucks skated past the Wild. Goalie Jacob Markstrom stopped 37 shots.
