FIRST BURIALS IN PITTSBURGH… Families of the 11 people killed in Saturday’s attack on a Pittsburgh began burying their dead yesterday. President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump traveled to the city despite being asked not to by city and religious leaders and their arrival drew thousands of protesters. Accused gunman Robert Bowers was charged Monday with 29 federal felony counts and could face the death penalty.
TRUMP SEEKS TO END RIGHT TO CITIZENSHIP… President Trump yesterday announced plans to sign an executive order that would terminate the right to citizenship for babies born in the U.S. if their parents are non-citizens or unauthorized immigrants. The declaration was met by widespread skepticism, since it appears to violate the 14th Amendment. The amendment states: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”
KANSAS MOSQUE ATTACK PLOTTERS BLAME TRUMP… Lawyers representing three Kansas militia members convicted of plotting to bomb the mosque and homes of Somali immigrants argue that their clients should be granted lenient sentences because they were inspired by President Trump’s violent rhetoric. Defense lawyers asked a federal court in Kansas to acknowledge Trump’s “rough-and-tumble verbal pummeling” during the 2016 election campaign and claim it “heightened the rhetorical stakes for people of all political persuasions.” One lawyer noted that Trump continues to stoke Islamophobia. Prosecutors are seeking life terms for all three convicts.
MUELLER TARGETED IN APPARENT SMEAR EFFORT… The office of Special Counsel Robert Mueller has asked the FBI to investigate what appears to be an effort to smear him with false sexual-misconduct claims. A spokesman for Mueller’s office said that women were offered money to make false claims about the special counsel, according to allegations made last week. The smear effort fell apart yesterday as journalists discovered blatant gaps and inconsistencies in the allegations and discovered a fake intelligence company established to conduct the operation.
WHITEY BULGER FATALLY BEATEN IN PRISON… Imprisoned South Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger was beaten to death by at least two inmates within hours of arriving at a West Virginia federal prison. The 89-year-old Bulger was serving a life sentence for 11 murders. Convicted mob hitman Fotios “Freddy” Geas, an inmate at the facility, is suspected of taking part in the killing. Bulger, who ran a criminal organization from the 1970s through the 1990s, was convicted in 2013.
SYLVESTER STALLONE WON’T BE PROSECUTED… The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has announced that it won’t prosecute “Rocky” actor Sylvester Stallone over allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman in 1987 and 1990, citing a lack of evidence. Officials said the allegations made by a woman in Santa Monica, California, were also outside of the statute of limitations. The complaint was made in November 2017.
NAOMI WATTS TO STARS IN ‘GAME OF THRONES’ PREQUEL… HBO has confirmed that English actress Naomi Watts has signed on to star in the upcoming “Game of Thrones” prequel. The actress will play “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.” The fantasy series will end after its next season, which airs in 2019.
CLEVELAND 136 – Atlanta 114… The Cavaliers pulled away in the second half to notch their first win of the season after six losses. Rodney Hood scored a game-high 26 points. Cedi Osman added 20 points. Tristan Thompson had 11 points and 13 rebounds.
CHARLOTTE 125 – Miami 113… Tony Parker came off the bench to score 24 points and dish off 11 assists in leading the Hornets past the Heat. Nicolas Batum and Malik Monk added 20 points apiece for Charlotte.
Sacramento 107 – ORLANDO 99… The Kings shook off a slow start to handle the Magic. Buddy Hield pumped in 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Nemanja Bjelica tossed in 21 points for Sacramento.
TORONTO 129 – Philadelphia 112… The Raptors got 31 points from Kawhi Leonard in cruising past the 76ers. Jonas Valanciunas delivered 23 points off the bench. Kyle Lowrie finished with 20 points and 12 assists.
BOSTON 108 – Detroit 105… The Celtics held the Pistons to 13 third-quarter points and held on to beat the Pistons. Kyrie Irving scored 31 points to lead all scorers.
MEMPHIS 107 – Washington 95… The Grizzlies were too much in the second half and handed the Wizards their fourth straight loss. Garrett Temple led the way with 20 points.
OKLAHOMA CITY 128 – L.A. Clippers 110… The Thunder bombed the Clippers 39-10 in the third quarter to erase a 13-point halftime deficit. Russell Westbrook’s 32 points led all scorers.
Portland 104 – HOUSTON 95… The Trail Blazers led from start to finish in their rout of the Rockets. Damian Lillard and Jusuf Nurkic scored 22 points each. Nurkic also brought down 10 boards.

Minnesota 4 – EDMONTON 3… Mikael Granlund scored a tie-breaking goal with 5:48 remaining and the Wild held on to clip the Oilers. Eric Staal had a goal and two assists.
ARIZONA 5 – Ottawa 1… The Coyotes opened with a three-goal first period and coasted past the Senators for their fourth straight win. Alex Galchenyuk had a goal and an assist. Antti Raanta stopped 25 shots at goal.
Philadelphia 3 – ANAHEIM 2… The Flyers fought off the Ducks to snap their three-game skid. Nolan Patrick netted the winning goal with 1:51 remaining.
N.Y. Rangers 4 – SAN JOSE 3 (SO)… Kevin Shattenkirk scored the winning goal in the shootout as the Rangers outlasted the Sharks. Chris Kreider scored two third-period goals. San Jose’s Tomas Hertl scored with less than 2 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
