The Rundown for Nov. 23, 2018

MACY’S PARADE KICKS OFF THANKSGIVING… Tens of thousands of people braved frigid temperatures and blustery winds to attend yesterday’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. The parade’s famed balloon characters were allowed to float above the crowds despite the windy conditions. Officials were prepared to ground the balloons or restrict them to a lower altitude if sustained winds exceeded 23 mph.

TRUMP THANKFUL FOR HIMSELF… President Trump yesterday declared that his performance as president is what he was most thankful for on Thanksgiving. The remark turned heads when it was made by telephone to reporters and members of the U.S. military. “This country is so much stronger now than it was when I took office that you won’t believe it,” Trump said.

COMEY, LORETTA LYNCH SUBPOENAED… House Republicans have subpoenaed former FBI Director James Comey and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch to appear for closed-door testimony next month. Comey is scheduled to appear on December 3, while Lynch is scheduled for the next day. Comey vows to resist a “closed door” session and wants his testimony to be public. “I’ve seen enough of their selective leaking and distortion,” Comey said. “I want the American people to watch.”

CIA HAS RECORDING OF KHASHOGGI KILLING ORDER… The CIA possesses a recording of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman giving the order to “silence Jamal Khashoggi as soon as possible,” according to a report in a Turkish newspaper yesterday. The report claims the CIA was listening in on a call between the crown prince and his brother, Khaled bin Salman, who is Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the U.S. Saudi Arabia has denied any involvement on the part of the crown prince and claims Khashoggi’s killing was the result of a rogue operation.

ENTERTAINMENT
CBS CANCELS ‘SALVATION’… CBS has announced that it is canceling the sci-fi series “Salvation” after two seasons. The decision was reportedly based on falling ratings from the first season to the second. The series followed an MIT grad student, a tech titan and various U.S. government officials as they try to save the world from a cataclysmic asteroid collision.

IN THEATERS… The animated feature “Ralph Breaks the Internet” tells the story of Ralph and Vanellope who become friends and discover a wi-fi router in their arcade that leads to a new adventure. The sequel is rated PG. In “Creed II,” light heavyweight contender Adonis Creed prepared for his toughest test yet under the tutelage of Rocky Balboa. Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone star in the PG-13 film. “Robin Hood” (2018) centers on a war-hardened Crusader and his Moorish commander who mount an audacious revolt against the corrupt English crown. The PG-13 film stars Taron Egerton and Jamie Foxx.
