TRUMP’S OVAL OFFICE ADDRESS… President Trump reiterating his claim that there is a “crisis” at the southern border during his first prime-time address from the Oval Office last night, but offered no new solutions or policy. Trump repeated his argument that a wall is needed, and said it would pay for itself by shutting down the pipeline for mass quantities of drugs. The president also used scare stories about illegals coming into the country to rape and murder Americans to bolster his stance. Trump claimed the wall he has been demanding along the southern border with Mexico will be made of steel rather than concrete “at the request of Democrats,” but Democratic leaders later said they never expressed support for a steel barrier. In offering the Democratic response to the speech, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer urged Trump to cease creating a fake crisis and separate the immigration issue from the government shutdown, which is in its third week.

FILING: MANAFORT SHARED DATA WITH RUSSIANS… Lawyers representing former Donald Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort revealed in an insufficiently redacted court filing yesterday that Manafort may have provided presidential polling data to an alleged Russian spy during the 2016 presidential election. The filing was a response to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s December allegation that Manafort lied to prosecutors in violation of his cooperation agreement. Manafort’s attorneys deny that their client lied about sharing polling data with Konstantin Kilimnik, who was described as having “ties to a Russian intelligence service and had such ties in 2016.”

RUSSIAN LAWYER INDICTED… Federal prosecutors have indicted a Russian lawyer who was present for a meeting at Trump Tower with top Trump campaign aides in 2016. Natalya Veselnitskaya has been charged in a separate obstruction of justice case with fabricating evidence while working to defend a Russian company in 2013. The civil case centers on Prevezon Holdings, which is accused of participating in a tax fraud scheme that laundered $230 million. According to the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan, Prevezon partnered with a Russian criminal organization to run an elaborate tax refund scheme that stole the identities of companies.

SEARS REACHES AGREEMENT TO KEEP STORES OPEN… Sears arranged to remain open yesterday after receiving a last-minute revised bid from Chairman Eddie Lampert’s hedgefund, ESL Investments. The agreement came after a twice-delayed hearing in bankruptcy court. The $4.4 billion bid will keep 425 jobs open and 68,000 people nationwide employed, at least for the time being.

OLDEST AMERICAN DIES… A 114-year-old Cleveland Heights, Ohio, woman who was believed to be the oldest person in the U.S. died yesterday. Family members attribute Lessie Brown’s longevity to a diet heavy on sweet potatoes. Brown became the country’s oldest person following the May 9, 2018, death of 114-year-old Delphine Gibson, of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.

ENTERTAINMENT
R KELLY BEING INVESTIGATED… TMZ reported yesterday that R. Kelly is being criminally investigated in Georgia for abuse allegations outlined a Lifetime docu-series outlined against him. The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office reportedly opened an investigation into abuse claims made against the singer by women featured in the “Surviving R. Kelly” series. Authorities have contacted at least two of Kelly’s accusers, according to reports.

MARGOT ROBBIE TO PLAY BARBIE… Margo Robbie has signed on to portray the doll Barbie in a live-action film. The Australian actress will also serve as a producer on the project. The 28-year-old Robbie has recently starred in “Suicide Squad,” “I, Tonya” and “Mary Queen o Scots.”

PHILADELPHIA 132 – Washington 115… The 76ers bombed the Wizards 36-16 in the second quarter and coasted to the victory. Rookie Landry Shamet scored a game-high 29 points off the bench. Joel Embiid and Jimmy Butler tossed in 2 points apiece. Embiid also grabbed 10 rebounds.

Indiana 123 – CLEVELAND 115… The Pacers built a double-digit halftime lead and held on to had the Cavaliers their 10th straight loss. They got 26 points from Thaddeus Young and 23 points from Bojan Bogdanovic.

TORONTO 104 – Atlanta 101… The Raptors were too much at the end in holding off the Hawks. Kawhi Leonard pumped in a game-high 31 points. Pascal Siakam had 13 points and 10 boards.

Denver 103 – MIAMI 99… Nikola Jokic’s basket with 2.4 seconds left gave the Nuggets the lead for good in their win over the Heat. Jokic finished with 28 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in his fourth triple-double of the season. Torrey Craig gathered 16 boards to go with his 11 points.

Minnesota 119 – OKLAHOMA CITY 117… The Timberwolves held off the Thunder in the final seconds to escape with the road win. Andrew Wiggins poured in 40 points and collected 10 rebounds. Karl-Anthony Towns added 20 points.

PHOENIX 115 – Sacramento 111… The Suns overcame a 19-point halftime deficit to upend the Kings. They held Sacramento to 14 third-quarter points. Kelly Oubre Jr. came off the bench to score 26 points and lead all scorers. T.J Warren added 21 points.

L.A. CLIPPERS 128 – Charlotte 109… The Clippers pulled away in the second half to down the Hornets. Lou Williams pumped in 27 points. Montrezl Harrell and Tobias Harris added 23 points apiece. Harrell also brought down 11 boards.

GOLDEN STATE 122 – New York 95… Klay Thompson made seven 3-pointers on his way to 43 points in leading the Warriors to a rout of the Knicks. Kevin Durant added 24 points for Golden State. Draymond Green had 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

Carolina 4 – N.Y. ISLANDERS 3… Jaccob Slavin’s power-play goal with 1:07 remaining proved to be the difference in the Hurricanes’ defeat of the Islanders. Justin Williams netted a go-ahead goal 1:35 earlier for Carolina. Victor Rask had two assists.

BUFFALO 5 – New Jersey 1… The Sabres scored all five goals in the second period and never looked back in beating the Devils. Jeff Skinner scored his 29th goal of the season to pull within one of league-leader Alex Ovechkin.

PITTSBURGH 5 – Florida 1… Bryan Rust scored a pair of goals in leading the Penguins past the Panthers. Sidney Crosby added a goal and an assist. Goalie Matt Murray stopped 36 shots.

Montreal 3 – DETROIT 2… Brendan Gallagher and Joel Armia scored just over a minute apart early in the second period and Jeff Petry added a third-period goal as the Canadiens edged the Red Wings. Tomas Tatar assisted on two goals.

WASHINGTON 5 – Philadelphia 3… The Capitals took control with three unanswered goals in the second period and fought off the Flyers. T.J. Oshie and Jakub Vrana scored two goals apiece. Vrana also had an assist. John Carlson added two assists.

TAMPA BAY 4 – Columbus 0… Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy made 31 saves as the Lightning blanked the Blue Jackets. Brayden Point netted two goals and had an assist. Mikhail Sergachev assisted on two goals.

WINNIPEG 7 – Colorado 4… The Jets built a 4-1 second-period lead but needed a three-goal third period to put away the Avalanche. Blake Wheeler scored a goal and assisted on three others. Jacob Trouba and Mark Scheifele each had a goal and two assists.

Dallas 3 – ST. LOUIS 1… Tyler Seguin scored two goals and has an assist as the Stars handled the Blues. Goalie Ben Bishop stopped 26 shots.

VEGAS 4 – N.Y. Rangers 2… Four different players found the net as the Golden Knights topped the Rangers. Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves at goal.

SAN JOSE 7 – Edmonton 2… Evander Kane and Joonas Donskoi each lit the lamp twice in leading the Sharks past the Oilers. Kane also had an assist. Timo Meier had two assists.

NFL NEWS… The Arizona Cardinals have hired Kliff Kingsbury as their head coach. The announcement culminates a busy off-season for Kingsbury, who was fired in November after six seasons as Texas Tech’s head coach and then joined USC a month later as its offensive coordinator. The Cardinals reportedly gave Kingsbury a four-year contract… The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are bringing Bruce Arians out of retirement to become their new head coach. Arian was head coach at Arizona until his retirement following the 2017 season. The 66-year-old Arians was given a four-year deal.
