The Rundown for March 11, 2019

TRUMP TO SEEK $8.6M FOR WALL… President Trump will ask Congress for an additional $8.6 billion to pay for a wall along the southern border with Mexico when the White House unveils his budget proposal today. The request applies to fiscal year 2020 and is more than six times what Congress allocated for border projects in each of the past two fiscal years. Passage of the request appears unlikely in the Democratic-controlled House, however. Trump’s budget will project that the economy continues to grow at a 3 percent rate or higher over the next five years, defying a more pessimistic consensus from outside forecasters.

SCHIFF: MUELLER SHOULD SEEK DIRECT TRUMP TESTIMONY… House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff said during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” yesterday that special counsel Robert Mueller should seek direct testimony from President Trump as part of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. A face-to-face interview with Trump would be the most effective way to gather information regarding any potential collusion, according to Schiff. Trump has submitted written answers to questions posed by the special counsel’s office but Schiff said the responses didn’t provide the full story.
