JULIAN ASSANGE ARRESTED… Wikileaks co-founder Julian Assange is facing extradition to the U.S. following his arrest yesterday in London. His arrest came after he spent 2,487 days holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy to avoid extradition to Sweden over sexual assault allegations. The 47-year-old Assange was later found guilty of failing to surrender to the court and faces up to 12 months in a British prison.

FORMER WHITE HOUSE COUNSEL ARRESTED… A grand jury has charged former White House counsel Gregory Craig with lying to officials and concealing information about his lobbying efforts in Ukraine. The 74-year-old Craig, who served in the Obama administration, became a target during Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s inquiry into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. Craig’s lobbying was allegedly linked to ex-Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort’s political efforts in Ukraine. If convicted, Craig could face a maximum of five years in jail for each count along with over $250,000 in fines.

OHIO ‘HEARTBEAT BILL’ SIGNED INTO LAW… Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed his state’s six-week abortion ban known as the “heartbeat bill” into law yesterday. The signature made Ohio the sixth state in the nation to attempt to outlaw abortions at the point a fetal heartbeat can be detected. The law is slated to take effect in 90 days, unless blocked by a legal challenge.

SUSPECT ARRESTED IN LOUISIANA CHURCH BURNINGS… Authorities in Louisiana yesterday charged a 21-year-old man with burning down three predominately black churches over the past two weeks. Investigators say they acted quickly out of concern he would strike again. The suspect, Holden Matthews, is the son of a St. Landry Parish deputy sheriff. He was taken into custody Wednesday night.

BLIZZARD POUNDS NATION’S MIDSECTION… A powerful blizzard that slammed the Plains states and Midwest yesterday caused power outages and forced the closures of schools and highways. An area stretching from northeast Colorado north to northern Wisconsin received about a foot of snow as wind gusts of up to 65 miles per hour were recorded. Officials announced that blizzard and winter storm warnings would remain in effect across the region through this morning.

ENTERTAINMENT
CITY OF CHICAGO SUES SMOLLETT… The city of Chicago filed a lawsuit against actor Jussie Smollett yesterday to cover the costs associated with the investigation of a hate crime that Smollett allegedly stage. Criminal charges against the “Empire” actor were dismissed by prosecutors more than two weeks ago. The 36-year-old Smollett refused the city’s demand for $130,000 to cover police overtime costs to investigate the actor’s claims.

IN THEATERS… In “Hellboy,” a hero caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge. David Harbour and Milla Jovovich star in the R-rated film. In the animated feature “Missing Link,” Mr. Link recruits explorer Sir Lionel Frost to help find his long-lost relatives in the fabled valley of Shangri-La. Along with adventurer Adelina Fortnight, this trio of explorers travel the world to help their new friend. The PG film stars Hugh Jackman and David Williams. “After” tells the story about a young woman who embarks in a rocky relationship with a guy holding a dark secret. Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Selma Blair star in the PG-13 film.

CINCINNATI 5 – Miami 0… Six pitchers combined on the shutout as the Reds completed a three-game sweep of the Marlins. Yasiel Puig returned from a two-game suspension and doubled home two runs.

ST. LOUIS 11 – L.A. Dodgers 7… The Cardinals handled the Dodgers to complete a four-game sweep. Matt Wieters knocked in three runs. Jose Martinez went 4-for-5 with an RBI.

N.Y. Mets 6 – ATLANTA 3… Amed Rosario belted a three-run homer and Pete Alonso added a two-run shot as the Braves doubled up on the Mets. Rosario also singled home a run.

CHI. CUBS 2 – Pittsburgh 0… Jose Quintana () allowed just four hits over seven innings and struck out 11 as the Cubs blanked the Pirates. Chicago scored both runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on a Daniel Descalso single and a Victor Caratini double.

San Diego 7 – ARIZONA 6… Manuel Margot’s homer in the top of the eighth inning proved to be the difference. Austin Hedges blasted a three-run homer and Franmil Reyes added a solo shot.

SAN FRANCISCO 1 – Colorado 0… Kevin Pillar’s homer in the bottom of the seventh inning provided all the offense the Giants needed. Jeff Samardzija (1-0) limited the Rockies to three hits over seven innings and got help from two relievers.

AL SCORES
Oakland 8 – BALTIMORE 5… Khris Davis homered twice for the second straight game to help power the Athletics past the Orioles. Josh Phegley and Kendrys Morales also went deep.

Cleveland 4 – DETROIT 0… Shane Bieber (1-0) limited the Tigers to three hits over seven innings and two relievers preserved the shutout. Leonys Martin and Carlos Santana both had three hits and two RBIs.

Seattle 7 – KANSAS CITY 6 (10 innings)… The Mariners erased 4-0 and 6-3 leads to outlast the Royals. Mitch Hanigar lined a game-tying two-run triple in the top of the ninth inning. Dan Vogelbach homered in the 10th.

BOSTON 7 – Toronto 6… Mitch Moreland doubled home the tying run in the bottom of the ninth inning and Rafael Devers followed with a walkoff RBI single as the Red Sox rallied past the Blue Jays. Earlier, Moreland smacked a solo homer and Devers lined a run-scoring double.
