ROSENSTEIN RESIGNS… Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein submitted his resignation letter yesterday. The resignation will be effective on May 11. Rosenstein will leave the legacy of appointing special counsel Robert Mueller to investigate connections between the Trump campaign and Russia. His departure comes amid criticism that he sided with Attorney General William Barr and the release of a redacted version of the report that covers up President Trump’s potential crimes.

AUTHORITIES THWART TERROR PLOT... Federal officials announced the arrest yesterday of a U.S. Army veteran suspected of planning to detonate multiple improvised explosive devices throughout Southern California. 26-year-old Mark Steven Domingo of Reseda, California, was taken into custody on Friday night after he accepted a fake bomb given to him by an undercover police officer. Domingo reportedly planned to target Jewish people, churches and police officers in an attack he was planning. Authorities describe him as a recent convert to Islam who sought revenge for the March 15 attack on two New Zealand mosques that left 50 people dead.

FED NOMINEE UNDER SCRUTINY… The White House is reviewing the past writings of President Trump’s nominee to join the Federal Reserve Board. Stephen Moore, a conservative financial pundit, has written opinion pieces that appear to denigrate women, call for the repeal of child labor laws, make jokes about AIDS and belittle his ex-wife. He’s also under scrutiny for his history of dodging taxes, alimony and child support.

MEASLES HIT 25-YEAR HIGH… Health officials reported yesterday that the number of people infected by measles in the U.S. is now at a 25-year high. The number of people with the disease has topped 700, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Cases have been recorded in 22 states, mostly among unvaccinated children. There have been no deaths reported as a result of the outbreak, officials say.

CUOMO ASKS TRUMP TO STAND UP AGAINST THE NRA… New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo yesterday criticized President Donald Trump on for siding with the National Rifle Association in its dispute with the state. Cuomo wants Trump to do more to stop gun deaths, noting that gun violence has taken the lives of 74,600 Americans since Trump’s 2016 election. Cuomo urged the president to help stand up against the NRA as his state as done. New York Attorney General Letitia James has issued subpoenas as part of an investigation related to the NRA and its tax-exempt status.

JOHN SINGLETON DIES… Filmmaker John Singleton, who earned a Best Director Oscar nomination in 1991 for “Boyz N the Hood,” died yesterday after suffering a stroke. He was 51. Singleton was hospitalized April 17 when he began experiencing leg weakness on a long flight. He was non-responsive and in a medically induced coma before his family removed life support. Singleton’s other credits include the films “Abduction,” “Poetic Justice,” “2 Fast 2 Furious” and “Shaft” as well as the TV series “Snowfall” on FX Network.

WOODSTOCK 50 FUTURE IN DOUBT… The future of the Woodstock 50 Music and Arts Fair appears to be in doubt. Investor Dentsu Aegis Network claims the event has been canceled but organizers insist it’s still on the schedule for August 16-18. Musical acts booked for the event include Jay-Z, Miley Cyrus and The Killers.

St. Louis 6 – WASHINGTON 3… The Cardinals scored all six runs in the top of the fifth inning to erase a three-run deficit and double up on the Nationals. Harrison Bader sparked the uprising with a solo homer.

Cincinnati 5 – N.Y. METS 4… Jesse Winker smacked a tie-breaking solo homer with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to send the Reds past the Mets after Cincinnati blew a four-run lead.

ATLANTA 3 – San Diego 1… Ozzie Albies singled home a run and homered to lead the Braves past the Padres. Mike Soroka (2-1) allowed a run on four hits over six innings.

MILWAUKEE 5 – Colorado 1… Jesus Aguilar got things going with a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and homered again to lead off the third. Zach Davies (3-0) limited the Rockies to an unearned run on three hits over 5-1/3 scoreless innings.

SAN FRANCISCO 3  – L.A. Dodgers 2… Evan Longoria’s bases-clearing double in the bottom of the eighth inning rallied the Giants past the Dodgers. The game featured a duel between San Francisco starter Jeff Samardzija and his counterpart Kenta Maeda, but neither got a decision.

BOSTON 9 – Oakland 4… The Red Sox rolled past the Athletics after spotting them a four-run lead. Michael Chavis’ two-run single capped a six-run bottom of the third inning.

MINNESOTA 1 – Houston 0… Jake Odorizzi (3-2) pitched four-hit ball over seven innings to outduel Justin Verlander. Ehire Arianza’s homer to lead off the bottom of the third inning accounted for the game’s only run.

Tampa Bay 8 – KANSAS CITY 5… Tommy Pham tripled in two runs and Mi-Man Choi added a two-run double in the Rays’ win over the Royals. Yandy Diaz produced a pair of run-scoring singles.

CHI. WHITE SOX 5 – Baltimore 3… The White Sox got two-run homers from Tim Anderson and Yonder Alonzo in topping the Orioles. Manny Banuelos (2-0) gave up two runs on five hits over 5-2/3 innings.

DENVER 121 – Portland 113… The Nuggets fought off the Trail Blazers in the series opener. Nikola Jokic pumped in 37 points to lead all scorers. Jamal Murray tossed in 23 points. Game 2 is tomorrow in Denver.

St. Louis 4 – DALLAS 3… Patrick Maroon found the net with 1:38 remaining to cap a wild third period and give the Blues a 2-1 lead in the series. Jaden Schwartz had a goal and an assist for St. Louis. Jay Bouwmeester set up two goals. Game 4 is tomorrow in Dallas.
