HOUSE DEMS TO GET MORE MEDDLING EVIDENCE… Congressional Democrats yesterday struck a deal to obtain from the Justice Department more evidence from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential elections. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler said his panel will receive evidence related to President Trump’s attempts to interfere with the investigation but it won’t get a full, unredacted copy of Mueller’s report. According to Nadler, the committee will get access to interview notes and other evidence, including “first-hand accounts of misconduct.”

JOHN DEAN TESTIFIES BEFORE HOUSE PANEL… Former White House counsel John Dean testified before the House Judiciary Committee yesterday. Dean, who counseled President Nixon during the Watergate era, likened special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigative report with the “Watergate Road Map” released in 1974. The road map released by special prosecutor Leon Jaworski laid out the case against Watergate conspirators.

1 DEAD IN NEW YORK HELICOPTER CRASH… A helicopter crashed into a Manhattan skyscraper yesterday, killing its pilot. Those who witnessed the crash from the ground say it reminded them of the 9/11 attacks. Authorities say the pilot appeared to be experiencing mechanical difficulties before the crash.

SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS GUN-SILENCER CONVICTIONS… The Supreme Court yesterday rejected a challenge that protections under the Second Amendment applies to the possession of firearms silencers. The court’s decision upheld a lower court’s conviction of two men convicted of failing to register their silencers. The ruling came less than two weeks after a disgruntled employee used a handgun and silencer to kill 12 people in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

4.0 EARTHQUAKE NEAR CLEVELAND… A 4.0-magnitude earthquake shook an area north of Cleveland yesterday morning. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake was centered in Lake Erie, approximately 2.5 miles north of Eastlake, Ohio. There was no serious damage reported in the immediate area but residents overwhelmed 911 dispatchers with phone calls.

CUBA GOODING JR. INVESTIGATED FOR ALLEGED GROPING… Actor Cuba Gooding Jr. is the target of a New York Police Department investigation into the alleged groping of a woman at a Manhattan club on Sunday night. The victim reportedly told police the incident occurred after she gave the actor a “cup of water because he was heavily intoxicated.” The woman claimed Gooding groped her breasts without her consent, prompting her to leave the bar and call 911. Gooding had left the scene by the time police arrived, authorities say.

GEENA DAVIS SIGNS ON TO ‘GLOW’… Actress Geena Davis has signed on to star in five episodes of the Netflix series “GLOW” in its upcoming third season. Davis will play a “former showgirl turned entertainment director of the Fan-Tan Hotel and Casino” in the pro wrestling comedy, which is set in 1980s Las Vegas. The season will become available for streaming on August 9. Davis won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for the 1989 film “The Accidental Tourist.” She also won a Golden Globe award in 2006 for her work on the television series “Commander in Chief.”

Golden State 106 – TORONTO 105… The Warriors fought off the Raptors to pull within 3-2 in the series and force Thursday’s Game 6 in Oakland. Stephen Curry scored 31 points to lead all scorers. Klay Thompson added 26 points. Golden State lost Kevin Durant in the second quarter with an Achilles’ tendon injury.

Arizona 13 – PHILADELPHIA 8… Eduardo Escobar went 4-for-5 with a pair of homers and five RBIs in leading the Diamondbacks past the Phillies. Ildemaro Vargas also homered twice. Arizona also got homers from Jarrod Dyson, Ketel Marte, David Peralta and Alex Avila.

St. Louis 4 – MIAMI 1… The Cardinals scored three unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning on their way past the Marlins. Michael Wacha (4-2) pitched five-hit ball over six scoreless innings.

ATLANTA 13 – Pittsburgh 7… Ronald Acuna Jr. unloaded a grand slam for the Braves. Ozzie Albies and Nick Markakis also went deep.

COLORADO 6 – Chi. Cubs 5… Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Arenado hit two-run homers in the bottom of the third inning and Ian Desmond added a solo shot in the seventh as the Rockies powered their way past the Cubs. The victory was Colorado’s ninth straight at home.

TAMPA BAY 6 – Oakland 2… Brandon Lowe, Kevin Kiermaier and Ji-Man Choi hit two-run homers for the Rays. Charlie Morton (8-0) limited Oakland to two hits over seven scoreless innings.

Texas 4 – BOSTON 3 (11 innings)… Elvis Andrus singled home Danny Santana with a tie-breaking run in the top of the 11th inning and the Rangers made it stand in outlasting the Red Sox. Nomar Mazara lined a two-run single.

Washington  12 – CHI. WHITE SOX 1… Kurt Suzuki lifted a sacrifice fly and belted a grand slam in leading the Nationals in their romp over the White Sox. Trea Turner had three hits and drove in two runs.

L.A. ANGELS 5 – L.A. Dodgers 3… The Angels scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning without any hits to finish off a come-from-behind win over the Dodgers. Shohei Ohtani walked and came around to score the tie-breaking run in the bottom of the eighth inning on Wilfredo Tovar’s infield grounder. Brian Goodwin added an insurance run on a wild pitch. Mike Trout blasted a game-tying two-run homer in the seventh. Kole Calhoun smacked a solo homer.

N.Y. Mets – N.Y. YANKEES (ppd)… Rain in New York forced postponement of last night’s Yankees-Mets game. It will be made up as part of a split doubleheader today.
