TRUMP ADMINISTRATION MOVES TO END ASYLUM PROTECTIONS… The Trump administration has established a new rule to end asylum protections for most Central American asylum-seeking immigrants. Under the new rule, applicants who pass through another country without seeking protection will not be eligible for asylum in the U.S. The rule would also apply to many other asylum-seekers who come to the U.S. southern border from other countries.

GUATEMALA BLOCKS IMMIGRATION AGREEMENT WITH U.S… Guatemala’s Constitutional Court has blocked a controversial immigration agreement with the U.S. that would have required asylum-seeking immigrants from other nations like Honduras and El Salvador to stay in Guatemala first. The move also prompted Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales to cancel yesterday’s scheduled White House meeting with President Trump. A senior Trump administration official said the meeting was “being rescheduled.”

TRUMP ORDER TARGETS USE OF AMERICAN-MADE PRODUCTS… President Trump yesterday signed an executive order that increases the government’s use of American-made products during his annual Made in America showcase. The order targets the Buy American Act, which categorizes a product as foreign-made if the cost of foreign materials in its manufacture is at least half of the total cost. The order would that number to 5 percent for iron and steel end products, and 45 percent for all other products.

PELOSI SEEKS SUPPORT IN CONDEMNING TRUMP TWEETS… House Speaker Nancy Pelosi yesterday urged her fellow Democrats in supporting a resolution that condemns President Trump’s xenophobic tweets. “The House cannot allow the President’s characterization of immigrants to our country to stand,” Pelosi said. The President’s racist tweets over the weekend have drawn backlash from Democrats as well as some Republicans.

EPSTEIN DETENTION HEARING… A lawyer representing accused child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein said at a detention hearing in Manhattan federal court yesterday that his client is willing to post up to $100 million bail. Meanwhile, a prosecutor argued that the case against Epstein is “getting stronger every single day.” The prosecutor note that Epstein is a flight risk, citing “piles of cash,” “dozens of diamonds” and a fake passport found in his safe. Two accusers of Epstein joined prosecutors in urging Judge Richard Berman to keep Epstein locked up without bail. Berman said he will wait until Thursday morning to decide whether to grant Epstein bail.

AUSTIN BUTLER LANDS ELVIS ROLE… Austin Butler will portray Elvis Presley in an upcoming biopic from filmmaker Baz Luhrmann. The film will follow Presley’s rise to stardom and his relationship with his manager, Col. Tom Parker, who will be portrayed by Tom Hanks. Production is scheduled to launch early next year in Queensland, Australia.

POST MALONE TO TOUR… Post Malone is planning to embark on a new North American tour this fall. The Runaway Tour will special guests Swae Lee and Tyla Yaweh. It kicks off on September 14 in Tacoma, Washington, and wraps up on November 20 in Los Angeles. Stops include Portland, Las Vegas, Detroit, Toronto, Boston, New York, Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, Denver and Salt Lake City.

San Francisco 19 – COLORADO 2… The Giants used a 21-hit attack to throttle the Rockies in the opener of a doubleheader. Brandon Crawford went 5-for-6 with a pair of homers and eight RBIs. Mike Yastrzemski and Buster Posey also went deep. Jeff Samardzija (7-7) allowed two runs on four hits over 6-2/3 innings.

San Francisco 2 – COLORADO 1… Stephen Vogt and Brandon Crawford homered in the top of the fourth inning and the Giants held on to edge the Rockies and complete a doubleheader sweep. Dereck Rodriguez (4-5) gave up a run on four hits over five innings.

L.A. Dodgers 16 – PHILADELPHIA 2… Cody Bellinger had four hits, including his 33rd and 34th homers, in leading the Dodgers in their rout of the Phillies. Max Muncy and Alex Verdugo also circled the bases. Enrique Hernandez had a couple of hits and drove in three runs. Clayton Kershaw (8-2) gave up a run on four hits over six innings.

Cincinnati 6 – CHI. CUBS 3… The Reds got solo homers from Eugenio Suarez, Yasiel Puig and Curt Casali in doubling up on the Cubs. Reds Reliever Michael Lorenzen helped the cause with a run-scoring single.

Atlanta 4 – MILWAUKEE 2… Freddie Freeman blasted a three-run homer and Austin Riley singled home a run for the Braves. Max Fried (10-4) limited the Brewers to three hits over five innings.

ST. LOUIS 7 – Pittsburgh 0… Miles Mikolas (6-9) scattered with hits in shutting out the Pirates. Tyler O’Neill connected for a pair of two-run homers.

AL SCORES
Tampa Bay 5 – N.Y. YANKEES 4… Travis d’Arnaud’s third homer of the night was a three-run shot in the top of the ninth inning that lifted the Rays over the Yankees. D’Arnaud’s first two homers came in the first and third innings.

BOSTON 10 – Toronto 8… Michael Chavis unloaded a grand slam to cap a five-run bottom of the first inning and Andrew Benintendi capped a five-run third with a two-run double as the Red Sox held off the Blue Jays. Rafael Devers had a couple of hits, including a two-run single.

CLEVELAND 8 – Detroit 6… Mike Freeman homered with a runner aboard and Oscar Mercado added a pair of solo shots to power the Indians past the Tigers. Jose Ramirez lined a two-run double.

KANSAS CITY 5 – Chi. White Sox 2… Jakob Junis held the White Sox to a run on five hits and struck out 10 over seven innings. Nicky Lopez had two hits and drove in two runs.

L.A. ANGELS  9 – Houston 6… Albert Pujols went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Angels. Kevan Smith also drove in three runs. Andrelton Simmons homered with the bases empty.
