TRUMP SAYS PENCE WILL BE HIS RUNNING MATE… President Trump announced yesterday that he plans on keeping Vice President Mike Pence as his running mate in the 2020 presidential campaign. “I think Mike Pence has been an outstanding VP,” Trump told reporters. The president said other candidates have been mentioned to him, but he called that “standard practice.”

KUDLOW DOESN’T SEE RECESSION, CONFIRMS GREENLAND REPORT… White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow and trade adviser Peter Navarro dismissed concerns about a recession yesterday following a roller-coaster week on Wall Street. During an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,”Kudlow said “there’s no recession on the horizon,” citing strong retail sales and low unemployment. Kudlow also confirmed that the report claiming President Trump wants to buy Greenland is accurate. Greenland’s government note that their country is not for sale and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said yesterday, “I strongly hope that this is not meant seriously.”

FORMER LOUISIANA GOVERNOR BABINEAUX DIES… Kathleen Babineaux, the first female governor of Louisiana, has died at 76 after a long battle with cancer. Blanco drew national attention when she presided over the city during Hurricane Katrina. The devastating storm, which left more than 1,400 people dead, struck just a year after Babineaux took office. The governor faced heavy criticism over the federal government’s slow response and for appearing unprepared and indecisive..

POLICE ARREST MAN WHO THREATENED JEWISH CENTER… Police in Ohio say they have arrested a man accused of threatening a Jewish center. New Middletown police say they arrested 20-year-old James Reardon, Jr., at his home Saturday. Police Chief Vincent D’Egidio accused Reardon allegedly of posting the threat in a video he posted last month on social media. Reardon is scheduled to be arraigned today.

MARIJUANA FOUND IN JALAPENO CARGO… Border Patrol agents at the Otay Mesa border crossing in California found nearly 4 tons of marijuana hidden in the a shipment of jalapeños from Mexico late last week. The discovery was made Thursday when a truck driver was flagged for a secondary inspection at the Otay Mesa border crossing in California. Customs and Border Protection said that during the inspection, a K-9 team alerted officers to the peppers. Officials estimate the seized drugs are worth $2.3 million.

NETFLIX ANNOUNCES ‘HE-MAN’ CARTOON… Netflix announced yesterday that filmmaker Kevin Smith is making a new “He-Man” cartoon. The original animated adventure series is based on a Mattel toy line. It aired initially on television from 1983 to 85 and remained popular in reruns for years. Smith is best known for his films “Clerks,” “Mallrats,” “Chasing Amy,” “Dogma” and “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.”

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE… “Good Boys” took in $21 million to debut atop the weekend box office. Last week’s champ, “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw,” slipped to second place with $14.1 million. “The Lion King” remained at No. 3 after making $11.9. “The Angry Birds Movie 2” opened in fourth place with $10.5 million. “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” capped the top five with $10 million.

San Diego 3 – PHILADELPHIA 2… Eric Lucchesi (8-7) held the Phillies to two runs on three hits over six innings as the Padres held on for the win. Luis Urias homered with a runner aboard. Austin Hedges added a solo shot.

St. Louis 5 – CINCINNATI 4…Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run homer and Tommy Edman homered with the bases empty for the Cardinals. Lane Thomas went 2-for-4 with an RBI single.

ATLANTA 5 – L.A. Dodgers 3… The Braves rallied past the Dodgers after spotting them an early three-run lead. Rafael Ortega unloaded a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning.

WASHINGTON 16 – Milwaukee 8… Brian Dozier hit a three-run homer and added a solo blast to lead the Nationals in their pounding of the Brewers. Matt Adams and Anthony Rendon also belted three-run homers. Juan Soto hit two solo homers. Victor Robles homered with the bases empty as well.

COLORADO 7 – Miami 6 (10 innings)… The Rockies overcame a 6-4 eighth-inning deficit to edge the Marlins. Garrett Hampson singled home with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning. Charlie Blackmon singled home a run and Trevor Story tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the ninth. Blackmon also homered with the bases empty. Nolan Arenado hit a two-run homer.

ARIZONA 6 – San Francisco 1… Merrill Kelly (9-12) limited the Giants to a run on six hits over 5-2/3 inning as the Diamondbacks cruised to the win. Wilmer Flores and David Peralta smacked solo homers.

Chi. Cubs 7 – PITTSBURGH 1… Jose Quintana (11-7) pitched five-hit ball over seven scoreless innings and the Cubs breezed past the Pirates in the Little League Classic. Anthony Rizzo homered with a runner aboard. Nicholas Castellanos and Jason Heyward drilled solo blasts.

BOSTON 13 – Baltimore 7… The Red Sox blew past the Orioles after trailing 6-0 in the third inning. Rafael Devers went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer and four RBIs. Sam Travis also went deep. Xavier Bogaerts and J.D. Martinez drove in two runs apiece.

Cleveland 8 – N.Y. YANKEES 4… Oscar Mercado blasted a two-run homer and singled home a run for the Indians. Mike Freeman belted a three-run shot. Francisco Lindor added a solo homer. Mike Clevinger (8-2) surrendered three hits over five scoreless innings.

Seattle 7 – TORONTO 0… Yusei Kikuchi (5-8) tossed a complete-game two-hitter in the Mariners’ shutout of the Blue Jays. Tom Murphy drilled a two-run homer. Kyle Seager, Austin Nola and Keon Broxton all homered with the bases empty.

TAMPA BAY 5 – Detroit 4… Ji-Man Choi delivered a walk-off two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Rays over the Tigers. Tommy Pham’s two-run homer tied the game in the eighth.

Minnesota 6 – TEXAS 3… Jorge Polanco legged out a tie-breaking bases-clearing triple in the top of the eighth inning as the Twins doubled up on the Rangers. Marwin Gonzalez gave Minnesota an early lead with a two-run double in the first.

Houston 4 – OAKLAND 1… Zack Greinke (13-4) held the Athletics to a run on four hits over seven innings on his way to become the third active pitcher to reach career 200 wins. Alex Bregman provided all the offense Houston needed with a three-run homer in the top of the fifth inning.

L.A. ANGELS 9 – Chi. White Sox 2… Matt Thaiss went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and RBI double to lead the Angels in their romp over the White Sox. Shohei Ohtani and Anthony Benboom both homered with a runner on. Kole Calhoun added a solo homer. Griffin Canning (5-6) gave up a run on five hits over seven innings.

N.Y. Mets 11 – KANSAS CITY 5… The Mets put away the Royals with a six-run top of the inning after blowing a three-run lead. Michael Conforto hit a three-run homer and singled home a run. Pete Alonso connected for his 40th homer with the bases empty. Amed Rosario went 3-for-5 and knocked in three runs.
