TRUMP URGES FED TO INTRODUCE STIMULUS MEASURES… President Trump urged yesterday that the Fed should consider cutting interest rates by one percentage point and introduce “some quantitative easing” stimulus measures. Trump also complained about a strong dollar, which “is sadly hurting other parts of the world.” Earlier yesterday Trump claimed that the U.S. economy is not falling into a recession as some economists predict. The U.S.-China trade war, sluggish economic data from Germany and uncertainties over the UK’s exit from the European Union have unsettled share markets.

DIRECTOR OF PRISONS REMOVED… Attorney General William Barr yesterday removed Acting Director of the Bureau of Prisons Hugh Hurwitz. The move comes a little over a week since Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide inside a federal prison. Barr’s decision to remove the nation’s top prison official follows revelations that the guards failed to check on Epstein every half hour as required and allegedly doctored log entries.

NEW CALIFORNIA LAW TARGETS USE OF LETHAL FORCE… California Governor Gavin Newsom yesterday signed into law a strict new standard for police use of lethal force. The “Stephon Clark’s Law” was named after an unarmed black man who was killed by Sacramento police last year. The law prohibits police from shooting at fleeing suspects unless they pose an immediate danger. The new law takes effect the first of the year.

OFFICER IN ERIC GARNER DEATH FIRED… New York Police Commissioner James O’Neill yesterday announced the firing of the white New York City police officer who used a deadly chokehold on Eric Garner during a 2014 arrest. Video of the encounter went viral spread anger nationally. The firing of 34-year-old Daniel Pantaleo comes two weeks after a department judge found him guilty of reckless assault for using a banned chokehold while trying to arrest Garner.

IMMIGRANTS SUE OVER CARE… Immigrants held in U.S. detention facilities filed a lawsuit yesterday in response to what they called shoddy medical care and a failure by authorities to provide accommodations for disabilities. The suit filed by disability and civil rights advocates in U.S. District Court says immigrants are placed in isolation as punishment and denied recommended medical treatment and surgery. Some said they’ve been denied wheelchairs and a deaf detainee who communicates in American Sign Language said he has not been provided an interpreter.

PATRICK SWAYZE DOCUMENTARY ATTRACTS 2 MILLION VIEWERS… Sunday night’s television broadcast of the documentary “I Am Patrick Swayze” attracted some two million viewers. The biography of the late movie star was simulcast on Paramount Network and TV Land from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. EDT. An encore aired later in the evening on Paramount. The film is now available for streaming on the Paramount Network app.

CBS EXTENDS JAMES CORDEN… CBS announced yesterday that it has signed James Corden to a deal that will keep him as host of “The Late Late Show” through August 2022. Corden took over the show on March 23, 2015. He served as host of the Tony Awards ceremony earlier this summer.

Washington 13 – PITTSBURGH 0… Four pitchers combined on the shutout as the Nationals bombed the Pirates. Asdrubal Cabrera hit a two-run homer, doubled home two runs and finished with five RBIs. Matt Adams went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and a two-run double. Trea Turner blasted a three-run homer. Adam Eaton also went deep. Soto went 4-for-4 four runs scored.

San Diego 3 – CINCINNATI 2… Francisco Mejia’s solo homer proved to be the difference as the Padres edged the Reds. homered with the bases empty. Manny Machado singled home a run in the top of the first inning.

ST. LOUIS 3 – Milwaukee 0… Dakota Hudson held the Brewers hitless over 6-2/3 innings and two relievers did the rest in the shut-out win. Paul DeJong homered for the Cardinals.

ARIZONA 5 – Colorado 3… Ketel Marte put the Diamondbacks on the board with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning. Carson Kelly homered and David Peralta lined a two-run triple in the eighth.

Kansas City 5 – BALTIMORE 4… Nicky Lopez and Nick Dini smacked solo homers for the Royals. Hunter Dozier stroked a two-run single.

Seattle 9 – TAMPA BAY 3… The Mariners jumped out to a 7-1 lead after two innings and never looked back in their win over the Rays. Tom Murphy belted a pair of homes and finished with four RBIs. Austin Nola homered with a runner aboard and singled home a run.

TEXAS 8 – L.A. Angels 7 (11 innings)… The Rangers overcame a 7-1 fourth-inning deficit to outlast the Angels. Isiah Kiner-Falefa singled home Jose Trevino with the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning. Trevino homered for Texas. Hunter Pence and Rougned Odor produced RBI singles to tie the game in the eighth.

HOUSTON 5 – Detroit 4… Robinson Chirinos’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning scored Jose Altuve with what proved to be the winning run for the Astros. Chirinos also lined a run-scoring single to cap a four-run first. Yuli Gurriel doubled home two runs.

Chi. White Sox 6 – MINNESOTA 4… Jose Abreu connected for a three-run homer as the White Sox handled the Twins. Ryan Goins went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
