COMMITTEE AUTHORIZES TRUMP IMPEACHMENT RESOLUTION… The House judiciary committee voted along party lines yesterday to authorize a resolution giving the panel more power to investigate President Trump as part of potential impeachment proceedings. The resolution allows committee chairman Jerry Nadler to hold committee hearings on the issue. Nadler says the investigation focuses on Trump’s conduct, which he said, “poses a threat to our democracy.”

EPA REPEALS CLEAN-WATER REGULATION… The Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday has completed the Trump administration’s repeal of an Obama-era regulation that limited the use of polluting chemicals near bodies of water, streams and wetlands. President Trump said the regulation impinged on the rights of farmers and rural landowners. Environmentalists were outraged that the administration wants to cut back on clean-water enforcement.

PROSECUTORS AUTHORIZED TO INDICT McCABE… The Justice Department has reportedly authorized prosecutors to pursue an indictment against former acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe for lying to investigators. According to the Washington Post, the DOJ has notified McCabe’s legal team about the move. McCabe has been accused of lying to instigators about a Hillary Clinton email investigation and an investigation into the Clinton family foundation. The DOJ’s inspector general said McCabe lied four times, including three times under oath.

NTSB RELEASES PRELIMINARY DIVE-BOAT FIRE REPORT… The National Transportation Safety Board has released a preliminary report on the dive-boat fire that killed 34 people off the Southern California coast on September 2. The report claimed that all six crew members were asleep aboard the boat, which was a violation of Coast Guard rules. The cause of the blaze has yet to be determined. Crews raised the wreckage of the boat yesterday from waters off Santa Cruz Island.

CALIFORNIA LEGISLATORS PASS FACIAL-RECOGNITION BAN… Lawmakers in California yesterday passed a three-year ban on state and local law enforcement from using body cameras with facial recognition software. The State Assembly voted 42-18 for the bill after a vote in favor by the Senate on Wednesday. It will now head to Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk for signing and it would take effect on the first of the year. The legislation prohibits officers from running facial recognition in real time or after the fact on footage collected by body cameras. Critics say the technology poses a threat to civil liberties.

ENTERTAINMENT
‘SNL’ TO SPORT THREE NEW CASTMEMBERS… Producers announced yesterday that “Saturday Night Live” will have three new featured players when it returns later this month for season 45. The new castmembers include Bowen Yang, Chloe Fineman and stand-up comedian Shane Gillis. The new season premieres on Saturday, September 28 with Woody Harrelson hosting and Billie Eilish as the musical guest.

IN THEATERS… “The Goldfinch” centers on a boy in New York who is taken in by a wealthy Upper East Side family after his mother is killed in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Oakes Fegley and Ansel Elgort star in the R-rated drama. “Hustler” tells the story about a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients. The R-rated comedy stars Constance Wu and Jennifer Lopez. In “The Sound of Silence,” a man who calibrates the sound in people’s homes in order to adjust their moods meets a client with a problem he can’t solve. Peter Sarsgaard and Rashida Jones star in the unrated film.

Milwaukee 3 – MIAMI 2… Four relievers blanked the Marlins over the final five innings as the Brewers held on for the win. Ryan Braun homered with a runner aboard.

N.Y. METS 11 – Arizona 1… Marcus Stroman (8-13) allowed just a run on four hits over 6-1/3 innings and got plenty of support in the Mets’ win. Juan Lugares unloaded a grand slam and added a two-run homer. Todd Frazier, Robinson Cano, Tomás Nido and Michael Conforto also went deep.

St. Louis 10 – COLORADO 3… The Cardinals got solo homers from Dexter Fowler, Kolten Wong, Rangel Ravelo, Marcell Ozuna and Harrison Bader in their pounding of the Rockies. Matt Carpenter lined a two-run double.

Chi. Cubs 4 – SAN DIEGO 1… Yu Darvish (6-6) pitched two-hit ball and struck out 14 over six scoreless innings as the Cubs cruised past the Padres. Ian Happ singled home two runs for Chicago.

Pittsburgh 4 – SAN FRANCISCO 2… Joe Musgrove (10-12) held the Giants to four hits over five scoreless innings and the Pirates breezed to the win. Jacob Stallings had a couple of hits, including a solo homer.

PHILADELPHIA 9 – Atlanta 5… Adam Haseley, Jean Segura and J.T. Realmuto hit two-run homers for the Phillies in their defeat of the Braves. Cesar Hernandez added a solo shot and an RBI single.

AL SCORES
N.Y. Yankees 10 – DETROIT 4… Luke Voit and Edwin Encarnacion blasted two-run homers as the Yankees downed the Tigers in the doubleheader opener. Voit also produced an RBI single. Didi Gregorius legged out a two-run triple and Cameron Maybin doubled home two runs.

N.Y. Yankees 6 – DETROIT 4… Aaron Judge and Gio Urshela both homered with a runner aboard as the Yankees completed a sweep of the twinbill. DJ LeMahieu went 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Kansas City 6 – CHI. WHITE SOX 3… Hunter Dozier went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer as the Royals doubled up on the White Sox. Jorge Soler also went deep.

Boston 7 – TORONTO 4… Marco Hernandez stroked a two-run double and Brock Holt drove in two runs with a pair of singles in the Red Sox’ victory. Mookie Betts went 3-for-5 and scored twice.

TEXAS 6 – Tampa Bay 4… Nick Solak slugged a two-run homer for the Rangers. Rougned Odor also went deep.

Oakland 3 – HOUSTON 2… Matt Olson’s two-run homer in the top of the third inning gave the Athletics a three-run lead and they held on to edge the Astros. Homer Bailey (13-8) limited Houston to a run on three hits over 5-1/3 innings.

INTERLEAGUE SCORES
L.A. Dodgers 4 – BALTIMORE 2… The Dodgers scored three times in the top of the sixth inning to put away the Orioles. Corey Seager and Enrique Hernandez raced home with the tying and go-ahead runs on a passed ball. Eight pitchers held Baltimore at bay.

Washington 12 – MINNESOTA 6… Anthony Rendon homered and doubled home two runs as the Nationals handled the Twins. Juan Soto homered with a runner aboard. Adam Eaton added a solo shot.

Cincinnati 11 – SEATTLE 5… The Reds erased a 5-2 seventh-inning deficit to blow away the Mariners. Freddy Galvis unloaded a grand slam. Curt Casali and Eugenio Suarez connected for two-run homers.
