PROSECUTORS SUBPOENA TRUMP’S TAX RETURNS… The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office reportedly subpoenaed eight years of President Trump’s personal and corporate tax returns late last month. Prosecutors asked accounting firm Mazars USA for Trump’s personal tax documents and those of the Trump Organization, including federal and state returns dating back to 2011. The investigation began as a probe into any role Trump and the company might have played in the hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels.

HOUSE PANEL DOESN’T HAVE TIME TO INVESTIGATE KAVANAUGH… The House judiciary committee chairman Jerry Nadler conceded yesterday that the panel lacks the time and resources to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Nadler said during an interview on New York radio station WNYC that the committee is too wrapped up in its ongoing efforts to impeach President Trump and can’t take on any new projects. Nadler said he believes impeaching Trump would require educating the public but ultimately would “vindicate the Constitution.”

HOUSE PANEL INVESTIGATING CHAO… The House oversight and reform committee launched an ethics investigation into Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao yesterday. The committee will try to determine whether Chao has used her position to benefit herself and members of her family. Committee chairman Elijah Cummings and Illinois congresswoman Raja Krishnamoorthi say the committee has received reports Chao sought from the Chinese government low-interest loans for the Foremost Group, a shipping company owned by her father and sister.

CALIFORNIA GOES AFTER VAPING… California has joined New York and Michigan in taking action against vaping. Governor Gavin Newsom yesterday issued an executive order calling for the health officials to recommend ways to combat the sale of counterfeit vaping products blamed for sickening hundreds of consumers. The order also increased enforcement of laws limiting the sale of vaping products to consumers over the age of 21. $20 million will go toward a marketing campaign that warns teens of possible health issues related to vaping.

UAW WORKERS ON STRIKE… More than 49,000 United Auto Workers members walked off the job yesterday in launching a strike against General Motors. Their departures effectively shut down more than 50 factories and parts warehouses. Negotiations between automaker and union negotiators continued yesterday in Detroit.

SNL RESCINDS HIRING… “Saturday Night Live” has withdrawn its offer to hire Shane Gillis as a cast member. The decision comes in response to Gillis using a racial slur for Chinese people and deriding Asians trying to learn English a video Gillis in a video he posted last year. The video emerged last week after NBC announced that Gillis and two others were joining the cast as featured players.

WIFE: RIC OCASEK DIED AFTER SURGERY… Former The Cars frontman Ric Ocasek died of heart disease worsened by emphysema, the New York city medical examiner said yesterday. Ocasek’s wife, Paulina Porizkova, said on social media that her late 75-year-old husband was “recuperating very well after surgery” at the time of his death without mentioning what kind of surgery. She says she brought him coffee Sunday morning when she discovered he had died.

Cleveland 23 – N.Y. JETS 3… Baker Mayfield passed for 325 yards and a touchdown as the Browns (1-1) ripped the Jets (0-2). Odell Beckham Jr. had six receptions for 161 yards, including an 89-yard TD catch.

MILWAUKEE 5 – San Diego 1… Zach Davies (10-7) limited the Padres to a run on two hits over five innings. Corey Spangenberg single home one run for the Brewers and tripled in two more. Travis Shaw delivered a pinch-hit solo homer.

ST. LOUIS 4 – Washington 2… Dakota Hudson (16-7) allowed just two runs on five hits over seven innings. Marcell Ozuna drove in all four Cardinals’ runs with a homer and a double.

CHI. CUBS 8 – Cincinnati 2… Kyle Schwarber got things going with a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and the Cubs rolled past the Reds. Nicholas Castellanos lined a two-run double.

COLORADO 9 – N.Y. Mets 4… Trevor Story’s three-run homer capped a six-run bottom of the fourth inning that gave the Rockies the lead for good in their defeat of the Mets. Ian Desmond also homered for Colorado.

ARIZONA 7 – Miami 5… Jake Lamb’s bases-clearing double capped a four-run bottom of the seventh inning as the Diamondbacks rallied past the Marlins. Eduardo Escobar homered for Arizona.

DETROIT 5 – Baltimore 2… Jordy Mercer hit a two-run homer and doubled home two runs for the Tigers. Tyler Alexander (1-3) allowed just a run on four hits over six innings.

MINNESOTA 5 – Chi. White Sox 3… Luis Arraez’s two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the difference in the Twins’ win over the White Sox. Mitch Garver went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Kansas City 6 – OAKLAND 5… Brett Phillips smacked a solo homer and Adalberto Mondesi doubled home a run as the Royals scored twice in the top of the ninth inning to upend the Athletics. Mondesi also tripled home a run in the first. Jorge Soler homered to lead off the fourth.
