TRUMP DENIES PRESSURING UKRAINE… President Trump yesterday denied trying to pressure Ukraine into investigating his Democratic political rival Joe Biden but wasn’t clear about whether he would release a transcript of a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Three officials have told the Washington Post that Trump told acting chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, to withhold almost $400 million in military aid for Ukraine at least a week before the phone call. A complaint filed by a U.S. whistleblower accuses Trump of soliciting a foreign power to smear Biden. Three House committees have called on Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to produce documents related to contacts between Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani and Ukrainian officials.

PROSECUTORS STILL SEEKING TRUMP TAX RETURNS… New York prosecutors yesterday urged a federal judge to reject President Trump’s effort to block a subpoena for his tax returns. The prosecutors also challenged the federal court’s jurisdiction in the matter, saying it belongs in state court.

Some local Afghan officials claimed that as many as 40 civilians were killed while attending a wedding. Afghanistan’s defense ministry is reportedly investigating the reports of civilian deaths.
