TRUMP CALL ALARMED INTELLIGENCE OFFICIALS… The Washington Post reported yesterday that President Trump’s conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was so alarming that intelligence officials referred the matter to the Justice Department as a possible violation of campaign-finance law. Trump instructed Zelensky in the phone call to work with Attorney General Bill Barr on an investigation into Joe Biden and his son. When Zelensky mentioned military aid from the U.S., Trump told him, “I would like you to do us a favor.”

MAGUIRE TO TESTIFY TODAY… Acting National Intelligence Director Joseph Maguire threatened to resign if the White House wouldn’t let him speak freely about the whistleblower complaint involving President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Maguire is scheduled to testify before Congress today about the complaint. Maguire reportedly told the White House that he would not be withholding information from Congress, unless the White House was going to assert executive privilege on the matter and pursue a legal case preventing his cooperation.

SENATE VOTES TO CANCEL TRUMP EMERGENCY DECLARATION… The Senate voted again yesterday to cancel President Trump’s declaration of national emergency at the southern border. The declaration, issued in February, Eleven Republican senators joined Democrats in voting to end the emergency declaration, which was issued in February. Trump’s declaration made it possible for him to unilaterally build a border wall despite the fact that Congress did not appropriate the funds for him to do so.

TRUMP SUED OVER ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT ROLLBACK… A coalition of 17 states, Washington, D.C., and the city of New York is suing the Trump administration over its rollbacks to the Endangered Species Act. The coalition, led by attorneys general in California, Massachusetts and Maryland, filed the lawsuit yesterday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The complaint says three new rules undermine the key requirements and purpose of the Endangered Species Act and are unlawful.

EXECUTION IN TEXAS… A 45-year-old man convicted of killing his wife and two stepsons last night became the seventh execution in Texas this year. Robert Sparks received a lethal injection at the state penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas, after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to halt the scheduled execution. Sparks had argued that he was intellectually disabled,

LIL YACHTY, TAYLOR BENNETT JOIN CHANCE TOUR… Chance the Rapper will be joined by special guests Lil Yachty and Chance’s brother Taylor Bennett on the second half of his North American tour. The second leg of the tour kicks off on January 15 in San Diego before it wraps up on February 24 in Milwaukee. Chance will also be performing at the Miami Beach Pop Festival on November 10.

ANOTHER ARREST IN MAC MILLER DEATH INVESTIGATION… Authorities have announced the arrest of a second person as they continue investigating the overdose death of rapper Mac Miller. The 26-year-old Miller was charged this week with possessing marijuana and prescription drugs as well as weapons offenses and fraud. Prosecutors have yet to accuse him directly of causing Miller’s death.

ARIZONA 9 – St. Louis 7… The Diamondbacks erupted to score seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to down the Cardinals.

Milwaukee 9 – CINCINNATI 2… Ryan Braun’s grand slam keyed a six-run top of the first inning and Eric Thames and Keston Hiura also homered as the Brewers clinched a postseason berth for the second straight year,

WASHINGTON 5 – Philadelphia 2… Anibal Sanchez (11-8) held the Phillies to two runs on six hits over seven innings. Howie Kendrick and Brian Dozier hit solo homers for Washington.

PITTSBURGH 4 – Chi. Cubs 2… The Pirates scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to down the Cubs and eliminate them from the postseason. Erik Gonzalez doubled home a run and lifted a sacrifice fly.

N.Y. METS 10 – Miami 3… Pete Alonso belted his 51st homer with two runners aboard the and Mets crushed the Marlins. Jacob deGrom (11-8) pitched two-hit ball over seven scoreless innings.

SAN FRANCISCO 2 – Colorado 1… Jaylin Davis’ solo homer in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Giants over the Rockies.

L.A. Dodgers 6 – SAN DIEGO 4… Joc Pederson homered and lifted a sacrifice fly for the Dodgers. Chris Taylor and Edwin Rios also went deep.

Minnesota 5 – DETROIT 1… The Twins cruised past the Tigers and officially clinched their first division championship since 2010 and sealed their first trip to the postseason since 2017. Luis Arraez and Eddie Rosario hit two-run homers. Randy Dobnak (2-1) allowed just an unearned run on one hit over six innings.

TORONTO 3 – Baltimore 2… The Blue Jays got a pair of homers from Rowdy Tellez and another from Billy McKinney before holding off the Orioles. Jacob Waguespack (5-5) scattered four hits over scoreless innings.

TAMPA BAY 4 – N.Y. Yankees 0… Charlie Morton (16-6) limited the Yankees to one hit over six innings and four relievers completed the shutout. Joey Wendle and Avisail Garcia smacked solo homers.

Boston 10 – TEXAS 3… The Red Sox rolled past the Rangers after spotting them an early three-run lead. Christian Vazquez and Mitch Moreland hit two-run homers. Rafael Devers added a solo shot.

CHI. WHITE SOX 8 – Cleveland 3… Welington Castillo blasted a three-run homer and Leury Garcia homered for the White Sox. Jose Abreu went 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Oakland 3 – L.A. ANGELS 2… Matt Chapman’s two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning powered the Athletics past the Angels. Ramon Laurean put Oakland on the board with a fifth-inning homer.

Houston 3 – SEATTLE 0… Zack Greinke (18-5) lost his bid for a no-hitter when Austin Nola singled with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, but reliever Will Harris came on to finish the Astros’ shutout of the Mariners. Alex Bregman and Yordan Alvarez produced run-scoring double. Kyle Tucker homered to lead off the top of the ninth inning.

INTERLEAGUE SCORE
Atlanta 10 – KANSAS CITY 2… Josh Donaldson doubled three times and knocked in four runs to lead the Braves in their rout of the Royals. Danby Swanson had four hits and two RBIs.
