UKRAINE EXPERT TESTIFIES BEFORE CONGRESS… Army Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman, the top Ukraine expert at the White House who raised concerns about the administration’s efforts to pressure Ukraine into investigating Trump’s political rivals, testified for 10-1/2 hours before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Committee on Oversight and Reform yesterday. He reportedly claimed the White House transcript of a July 25 call between President Trump and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky was missing certain words and phrases. The New York Times reported that Vindman said there are ellipses in the memo that indicate omissions where Trump spoke about tapes of presidential candidate Joe Biden and that his attempts to restore words and phrases failed. Analysts say Vindman’s testimony is likely to drive investigators to ask further questions about how officials handled the call. Top Democrats at the deposition described Vindman’s testimony as “extremely disturbing” and praised him for appearing despite attacks from the White House.

WHISTLEBLOWER LAWYERS THREATENED… Lawyers representing the whistleblower who first drew attention to President Trump’s July 25 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has received multiple death threats, according to a report in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal. No threats thus far have been determined to be credible, the report said.

INDICTED GIULIANI ASSOCIATE TO BE QUESTIONED UNDER OATH… A federal judge in Florida ruled yesterday that Lev Parnas, the indicted associate of Rudy Giuliani, can be questioned under oath in the coming weeks about financial transfers he made to Republican political campaign. Parnas is accused in a New York federal court of conspiracy and campaign finance-related violations and has pleaded not guilty to his criminal charges. The Manhattan federal prosecutors continue to consider new charges related to him.
