WHITE HOUSE WON’T PARTICIPATE IN IMPEACHMENT HEARING… The White House announced yesterday that President Trump and his attorneys will not participate in Wednesday’s House Judiciary Committee impeachment hearing. The president will instead rely on congressmen Jim Jordan, John Ratcliffe and Matt Gaetz to defend him. A panel of constitutional scholars and law professors in the initial hearing will assess the allegations against Trump to determine whether or not they constitute “high crimes and misdemeanors.” The House Intelligence Committee is expected to approve its report recommending that Trump be removed from office over allegations that he pressured a foreign country (Ukraine) to investigate his political rival Joe Biden and his son Hunter.
TEENS ESCAPE IN TENNESSEE DETENTION CENTER… Authorities in Tennessee are on the lookout for four teenagers who escaped from the Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center in Nashville on Saturday night. The boys, who are ages 15 to 17, reportedly “ran out” of the detention center after they had been left alone on work detail. Their staff supervisor left them while responding to a fight at a different location at the facility, it was reported. The escapees are considered dangerous and two are facing murder charges.
NINE FAMILY MEMBERS KILLED IN SOUTH DAKOTA PLANE CRASH… Authorities in South Dakota confirmed yesterday that nine members of an eastern Idaho family died Saturday afternoon in a plane crash shortly after takeoff in a snowstorm in Chamberlain. Three other passengers survived the crash, according to the Brule County Sheriff’s Office. The passengers ranged in age from 7 to 81. The survivors were reported to be 17-, 27- and 28-year-old males. The family was visiting South Dakota from Idaho Falls for a weekend hunting trip, officials said.
SHOOTINGS IN NEW ORLEANS… Violence broke out early yesterday in New Orleans, as 10 people were wounded in gunfire near the French Quarter and separate shootings hours later left two men dead and two others wounded. Police said both shootings remain under investigation. Two of the French Quarter shooting victims were listed in critical condition as of yesterday afternoon.
WINTER STORM REACHES NORTHEAST… A winter storm that spanned the entire nation and was blamed for multiple deaths culminated yesterday by covering the Northeast in snow and ice. More than a foot of snow was expected in parts of upstate New York and New England. The heaviest ice accumulations were forecast in parts of Pennsylvania.
TRIPPIE REDD TOPS ALBUM CHART… Trippie Redd’s “A Love Letter to You 4” sold 104,000 units to debut atop the Billboard 200 album chart. Jason Aldean’s “9” sold 83,000 copies to open in second place. The “Frozen 2” soundtrack rose to third place after selling 79,000 units. Post Malone’s “Hollywood’s Bleeding” slipped to fourth place after selling 73,000 copies. Billie Eilish’s “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” finished fifth with 52,000 units sold.
WEEKEND BOX OFFICE… “Frozen 2” raked in another $85.2 million to remain atop the weekend box office. “Knives Out” opened in a distant second place with $27 million. “Ford v Ferrari” dropped to third place with $13.2 million. “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” finished fourth with $11.8 million. “Queen & Slim” capped the top five with $11.7 million.
CINCINNATI 22 – N.Y. Jets 6… Andy Dalton threw a touchdown pass, Joe Mixon ran for a score and the Bengals (1-11) downed the Jets (4-8) for their first victory of the season.
Tennessee 31 – INDIANAPOLIS 17… Tye Smith returned a blocked field goal 63 yards for the go-ahead touchdown with 5:02 remaining as the Titans (7-5) put away the Colts (6-6). Ryan Tannehill passed for two scores.
MIAMI 37 – Philadelphia 31… The Dolphins (3-9) rallied in the second half to upend the Eagles (5-7). Ryan Fitzpatrick found DeVante Parker on two of his three touchdown passes. Parker had seven receptions for 159 yards.
Green Bay 31 – N.Y. GIANTS 13… Aaron Rodgers passed for 243 yards and four touchdowns in leading the Packers (9-3) past the Giants (2-10). Devante Adams was on the receiving end of two scoring tosses.
PITTSBURGH 20 – Cleveland 13… The Steelers (7-5) kept their postseason push alive by fighting off the Browns (5-7). Benny Snell scored a go-ahead touchdown on a 1-yard plunge in the third quarter. Devlin Hodges hit James Washington with a game-tying 30-yard scoring pass in the second quarter.
Washington 29 – CAROLINA 21… The Redskins (3-9) made a late goal-line stand to hold off the Panthers (5-7). Derrius Guise ran for 129 yards and two touchdowns.
Tampa Bay 28 – JACKSONVILLE 11… Peyton Barber ran for a pair of touchdowns and Devin White returned a fumble 14 yards for another as the Buccaneers (5-7) topped the Jaguars (4-8).
BALTIMORE 20 – San Francisco 17… Justin Tucker’s 49-yard field goal as time expired lifted the Ravens (10-2) over the 49ers (10-2) for their eighth straight win. Lamar Jackson threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score.
L.A. Rams 34 – ARIZONA 7… Jared Goff threw for 424 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Rams (7-5) past the Cardinals (3-8-1). Robert Woods had 13 catches for 172 yards.
DENVER 23 – L.A. Chargers 20… Brandon McManus booted a 53-yard field goal as time expired to send the Broncos (4-8) past the Chargers (4-8). Drew Lock hit Courtland Sutton with a pair of first-half touchdown passes.
KANSAS CITY 40 – Oakland 9… Patrick Mahomes threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score in the first half as the Chiefs (8-4) cruised past the Raiders (6-6). Juan Thornhill returned an interception 46 yards for a score.
HOUSTON 28 – New England 22… Deshaun Watson threw touchdown passes to three different receivers and hauled in a DeAndre Hopkins scoring pass and the Texans (8-4) held off the Patriots (10-2).
