HOUSE TO DRAW UP ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT… House Speaker Nancy Pelosi cited abuse of power yesterday in announcing that she has instructed House Democrats to draw up articles of impeachment of President Trump. The announcement paves the way for a House floor vote in the coming weeks. “The president abused his power for his own personal political benefit at the expense of our national security by withholding military aid and a crucial Oval Office meeting in exchange for an announcement of an investigation into his political rival,” Pelosi said. “The facts are uncontested,” she added.

TRUMP ASKS SUPREME COURT TO PROTECT HIS FINANCIAL RECORDS… President Trump yesterday asked the Supreme Court to void a House subpoena demanding his financial records. The High Court already has blocked the release of the documents while justices consider whether to hear Trump’s case and his separate appeal of a court order that requires his accounting firm to turn his tax returns over to the Manhattan District Attorney. A third case involving House subpoenas for Trump’s records from New York banks also is headed for the Supreme Court.

U.S. TAKES ACTION AGAINST RUSSIAN HACKING GROUP… The Justice and Treasury departments announced yesterday that they have taken action against a Russian hacking group that stole “at least” $100 million from banks using malicious software that swiped banking credentials. According to a joint press release, 17 individuals associated with an organization that went by the name “Evil Corp.” have been targeted. The State Department has offered a $5 million reward for information on the group’s leader, Maksim Yakubets. Evil Corp. allegedly used a type of malware known as “Dridex,” which worked to evade common anti-virus software and spread through emailed phishing campaigns. The malware was able to steal login credentials and empty the accounts of bank employees and bank customers. The group also stole an estimated $70 million using a similar malware known as “Zeus.”

The gang has an estimated 400 members in Massachusetts prisons, including leaders who face charges for continuing to coordinate criminal activity outside the prison, authorities said.

3 DEAD IN FLORIDA SHOTOUT… At least three people were killed in South Florida yesterday after a police pursuit of a carjacked UPS vehicle ended in a shootout. Authorities say the incident began after an armed robbery at a jewelry store in Coral Gables where a woman was shot. Several police cars joined in a high-speed chase after the carjacking and the pursuit ended when traffic forced the driver of the UPS vehicle to slow down.
