BIDEN COMES UP BIG IN ‘SUPER TUESDAY’ VOTING… Former Vice President Joe Biden, who gained momentum with by winning South Carolina’s Democratic primary on Saturday, continued his comeback bid as he seeks his party’s presidential nomination in yesterday’s “Super Tuesday” balloting. Biden won Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Minnesota, Massachusetts and Texas. Bernie Sanders captured the big prize in winning California. He also recorded wins in Colorado, Utah and his home state of Vermont. More than 1,300 delegates up for grabs in yesterday’s voting. Former New York mayor Mike Bloomberg, whose campaign appears to be on the skids, is reportedly planning to reassess his path forward.

CORONAVIRUS DEATH TOLL JUMPS TO 9… The death toll from the coronavirus in the U.S. climbed to nine yesterday as lawmakers continued to question the government’s ability to expand testing fast enough to deal with the outbreak. The deaths all have occurred in Washington state, where there have been 27 confirmed cases. Nationwide, the number of infections surpassed 100 spanning 15 states. Yesterday, Congress approved a bipartisan $7.5 billion emergency bill to fund the government’s response. Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve announced the biggest interest-rate cut in over a decade as it tries to minimize the outbreak’s impact on the U.S. economy.

25 DEAD IN TENNESSEE TORNADOES… Officials in Tennessee say at least 25 people were killed and an unknown number remains missing following the tornadoes that ripped through the state late Monday night through yesterday morning. More than 140 buildings were destroyed by the fast-moving storms. Governor Bill Lee declared an emergency and sent the National Guard to help with search-and-rescue efforts.

STATES SUE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION OVER WALL FUNDING… Attorneys general in 18 states have joined in a lawsuit against the Trump administration over its plans to divert $3.8 billion in military funds to the construction of a wall along the southern border with Mexico. The Pentagon last month requested $2.02 billion in defense appropriations and $1.6 billion in overseas contingency operations in order to fund wall construction. Plaintiffs include New York, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and Wisconsin.

STOCKS TUMBLE… Wall Street took a beating yesterday as markets fell sharply amid fears of the coronavirus. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 785.91 points, or 2.94 percent, while the S&P 500 fell 2.81 percent and the Nasdaq composite slid 2.99 percent. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield hit a record low of 0.906 percent.

GENESIS REUNITING… Three remaining members of the rock band Genesis have announced that they are reuniting for a United Kingdom tour. The performances will be the first in 13 years for the band, which will be without the original lead singer Peter Gabriel. Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford are scheduled to disclose details on a BBC radio broadcast today.

FORMER CNN ANCHOR BOBBIE BATTISTA DIES… Former CNN anchor Bobbie Battista died yesterday after a four-year battle with cervical cancer. She was 67. Battista, who was among the original anchors for CNN Headline News, also hosted CNN’s “TalkBack Live” and “CNN News Hour.”

San Antonio 104 – CHARLOTTE 103… The Spurs overcame a 17-point deficit after the first quarter and held on at the end to edge the Hornets. Dejounte Murray scored 21 points to lead six players in double figures.

Brooklyn 129 – BOSTON 120 (OT)… The Nets rallied to outlast the Celtics after trailing by 17 points after the third quarter. Caris Levert scored 37 of his career-high 51 points in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Minnesota 139 – NEW ORLEANS 134… The Timberwolves came up big in the fourth quarter to top the Pelicans. Malik Beasley pumped in 28 points. DeAngelo Russell added 23 points. Five other players scored in double figures for Minnesota.

L.A. Clippers 109 – OKLAHOMA CITY 94… The Clippers started fast and cruised past the Thunder. Kawhi Leonard led the way with 25 points.

Golden State 116 – DENVER 100… The Warriors pulled away in the fourth quarter to top the Nuggets. Andrew Wiggins and Eric Paschall scored 22 points apiece.

Toronto 123 – PHOENIX 114… The Raptors took control in the fourth quarter to put away the Suns. They got 33 points from Pascal Siakam and 28 from Kyle Lowry.

L.A. LAKERS 120 – Philadelphia 107… The Lakers bombed the 76ers 37-19 in the second quarter and maintained control. Anthony Davis scored 18 of his 37 points during the surge. LeBron James had 22 points and 14 assists.

SACRAMENTO 133 – Washington 126… The Kings recovered to get past the Wizards after blowing a 28-point lead. De’Aaron Fox scored 31 points to lead seven players in double figures. Bogdan Bogdanovic added 21 points.
