CORONAVIRUS UPDATES… The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. has reached 24,626,884 and the nation’s death toll stands at 410,102, according to figures released last night by Johns Hopkins University… President Biden unveiled his administration’s COVID-19 strategy yesterday, signing a series of executive orders aimed at increasing testing capacity, speeding up vaccination distribution and reopening schools.

HAWLEY, CRUZ TARGETED IN SENATE ETHICS COMPLAINT… A group of seven Senate Democrats yesterday called on the Ethics Committee to launch an investigation into Republican senators Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz over the role they played in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. The two senators are accused of violating the chamber’s ethics rules by objecting to the Electoral College results. The Democratic senators say Hawley and Cruz “lent legitimacy” to the cause of the mob that stormed the Capitol building in support of Donald Trump.

JAIME HARRISON ELECTED DNC CHAIR… Former South Carolina Democratic Party Chair and Senate candidate Jaime Harrison was officially elected chair of the Democratic National Committee yesterday. Harrison won by a near-unanimous vote after being selected by President Joe Biden for the job. He pledged to help the Democratic Party maintain its majorities through the upcoming election cycles, including the 2022 midterms. Harrison said as head of the DNC he would seek to implement a “50-state and seven-territory strategy” urging the Democratic candidates to compete in Republican strongholds.

DoD TO PROSECUTE ALLEGED TERROR BOMBERS… The Defense Department yesterday announced that it plans to try three men held at the U.S. military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for their roles in two deadly bombings in Indonesia in the early 2000s. Charges against Encep Nurjaman, Mohammed Nazir Bin Lep and Mohammed Farik Bin Amin have been referred to a military commission, clearing the way for the men to face trial. Prosecutors have charged the men with conspiracy, murder, attempted murder, intentionally causing serious bodily injury, terrorism, attacking civilians, attacking civilian objects, destruction of property and accessory after the fact.

JUDGE APPROVES FLINT SETTLEMENT… A federal judge has granted preliminary approval Thursday to a $641 million deal that would benefit thousands of Flint residents who were harmed by lead-contaminated water. The city of Flint, state of Michigan, an area hospital and an engineering firm are included in the agreement. With preliminary approval, Flint residents can object and pursue their own claims. They have until March 29 to register to participate.

BIDEN INAUGURATION RATINGS TOP TRUMP’S
… A million and a half more people watched Joe Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday than Donald Trump’s in 2017, according to data released yesterday by the Nielsen Co. Roughly 39.87 million people tuned in to Biden’s swearing-in ceremony, which lasted a half-hour. CNN captured the most viewers with 9.9 million, while 7.66 million viewers tuned in to ABC.

‘NO TIME TO DIE’ PUSHED BACK AGAIN… The release of the James Bond flick “No Time To Die” is once again being pushed back amid the coronavirus pandemic. The film was originally set to open on April 2 but will now hit the big screen on October 8. The 25th installment in the iconic spy franchise returns Daniel Craig in the titular role.

… LeBron James scored a season-high 34 points in leading the Lakers past the Bucks. Kentavius Caldwell-Pope tossed in 23 points.

New York 119 – GOLDEN STATE 104… The Knicks opened with a 40-point first period on their way past the Warriors. All five starters scored in double figures, led by RJ Barrett’s 28 points. Julius Randle grabbed 17 rebounds to go with his 16 points.

UTAH 129 – New Orleans 118… The Jazz shook off a slow start to get past the Pelicans. Donovan Mitchell pumped in a game-high 36 points. Mike Conley added 20 points.

Tampa Bay 3 – COLUMBUS 2 (OT)… Brayden Point’s goal at 1:56 of overtime sent the Lightning past the Blue Jackets. Ryan McDonagh had two assists.

Winnipeg 4 – OTTAWA 1… The Jets put the game away with a three-goal second period. Mark Scheifel and Nikolaj Ehlers both had a goal and an assist.

Montreal 7 – VANCOUVER 3… Tyler Toffoli’s shorthanded goal sparked a four-goal second period that carried the Canadiens past the Canucks. Toffoli also opened the scoring with a first-period goal and had an assist. Joel Armia had two goals and two assists.

L.A. KINGS 4 – Colorado 2… The Kings rallied from two goals down in the second period to double up on the Avalanche. Adrian Kempe netted a go-ahead goal in the third period.
