CORONAVIRUS UPDATES… The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. has reached 26,554,737 and the nation’s death toll stands at 450,681, according to figures released last night by Johns Hopkins University… There is a downward trajectory in new cases and hospitalizations as the Biden administration remains confident that it can hit its target of 100 million vaccines in 100 days, the White House Coronavirus Task Force said yesterday. However, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky warned that new variants could threaten that positive momentum.

SENATE REACHES POWER-SHARING AGREEMENT… Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer yesterday reached a power-sharing agreement with Republicans. The Senate later approved the agreement by unanimous consent. Weeks-long negotiations had delayed the new Democratic majority from setting up some operations. Senators can now promptly “get to work, with Democrats holding the gavels,” Schumer said.

ARREST WARRENT FOR KYLE RITTENHOUSE… Prosecutors in Kenosha, Wisconsin, have filed an arrest warrant for Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old boy who fatally shot two BLM protesters and wounded another last August. Rittenhouse, who was out of jail on $2 million bail, is accused of violating his release by not providing a current residence. Police who visited Rittenhouse at his Illinois home last month say they found someone else living there. Last month, Rittenhouse was pictured in a Wisconsin bar with members of the white nationalist Proud Boys group, flashing a “white power” hand gesture. In their filing, prosecutors ask for Rittenhouse to be re-arrested and his bail increased by $200,000.

REPUBLICANS FAIL TO OUST CHENEY… House Republicans voted yesterday to keep Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney as House Republican Conference Chair. The vote was 145 to 61. Cheney, the No. 3 Republican in the House, had come under fire from many in her party following her vote to impeach former President Trump. Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida led the unsuccessful effort to oust her from the leadership role.

MILITARY TO STAND DOWN AND DISCUSS WHITE SUPREMACY… Secretary of Defense General Lloyd Austin has ordered a military-wide “stand down” to allow for “needed discussions” between local commanders and their soldiers about right-wing extremism within their ranks. The stand down is expected within 60 days. Austin, who is the first Black Secretary of Defense, is reportedly frustrated by the lack of discussion and visibility of white supremacy in the military.

… Country star Morgan Wallen continues to face backlash after video surfaced of him shouting a racial slur. The singer, whose new release “Dangerous: The Double Album” has spent three straight weeks atop the Billboard 200 album chart, has been suspended indefinitely from his label and his music has been pulled by radio stations and streaming services. Maren Morris, Mickey Guyton and other country music stars have denounced Wallen for using the N-word and other profanities in video released Sunday night.

PUBLIC VIEWING FOR CICELY TYSON… A public viewing for Cicely Tyson is scheduled for February 15 in New York. The late actress will lie in repose at the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Manhattan. Masks and social-distancing will be mandatory. Tyson died January 28 at age 96.

Philadelphia 118 – CHARLOTTE 111
… The 76ers jumped out to a 30-13 lead after the first quarter and held off the Hornets for their fourth straight win. Joel Embiid had game-highs with 34 points and 11 rebounds. Tobias Harris added 26 points.

MILWAUKEE 130 – Indiana 110… Giannis Antetokounmpo racked up 21 points, 14 boards and 10 assists before sitting out the fourth quarter of the Bucks’ blowout of the Pacers. Bryn Forbes delivered 20 points off the bench.

Dallas 122 – ATLANTA 116… The Mavericks fought off the Hawks to snap their six-game skid. Luka Doncic scored 27 points and dished off 14 assists. Kristaps Porzingis added 24 points and 11 rebounds.

L.A. Clippers 121 – CLEVELAND 99… Paul George made eight 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 36 points and the Clippers cruised past the Cavaliers. Kawhi Leonard added 24 points.

Washington 103 – MIAMI 100… The Wizards erased a 13-point second-half deficit to upend the Heat. Bradley Beal led all scorers with 32 points.

New York 107 – CHICAGO 103… The Knicks built a big lead early and then withstood a fourth-quarter rally to top the Bulls. They got 27 points from Julius Randle and 20 from Elfrid Payton.

OKLAHOMA CITY 104 – Houston 87… Kenrich Williams came off the bench to lead a balanced scoring attack with 19 points and the Thunder rolled past the Rockets. Darius Bazley had 18 points and 12 boards.

SAN ANTONIO 111 – Minnesota 108… The Spurs came from 16 points down to top the Timberwolves. DeMar DeRozan led the way with 30 points. Dejounte Murray finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

NEW ORLEANS 123 – Phoenix 101… The Pelicans surged past the Suns in the second half after leading by two at the break. Zion Williamson made 12 of 14 field goal attempts on his way to a game-high 28 points. Brandon Ingram added 23 points.

SACRAMENTO 116 – Boston 111… The Kings came up big in the fourth quarter to get past the Celtics. De’Aaron Fox had 26 points and 11 assists. Harrison Barnes tossed in 24 points.

TAMPA BAY 5 – Detroit 1… Victor Hedman found the scoring early in the first period and assisted on Antony Cirelli’s goal 2-1/2 minutes later to provide the Lightning with all the scoring they needed in the win over the Red Wings. Detroit managed just 16 shots on goal.

Boston 4 – PHILADELPHIA 3 (OT)… The Bruins came from two goals down in the third period to outlast the Flyers. David Pastrnak scored all three goals in regulation and Patrice Bergeron added the game-winner 31 seconds into overtime.
