HOUSE PASSES PRO-UNION LEGISLATION. The House yesterday passed legislation to expand protections for labor union organizing and collective bargaining. ARKANSAS GOVERNOR SIGNS ABORTION BAN INTO LAW… Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson yesterday signed into law legislation that effectively bans abortions in the state. The bill allows the procedure only when it’s necessary to save the mother’s life and does not provide exceptions for those impregnated in an act of rape or incest. Capitol police requested the 60-day extension last week based on intelligence that a militia posed a security threat. SHERIFFS TO BE IDENTIFIED… A federal judge ruled yesterday that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department must identify deputies who allegedly shared photos of human remains in the helicopter crash that killed NBA legend Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and five others. The decision by District Court Judge John F. Walter is part of a lawsuit against the sheriff’s department filed by Bryant’s widow, Vanessa. The judge ruled that the public has a vested interest in whether agencies that are responsible for investigating and adjudicating complaints of misconduct have acted properly and wisely.
